    Because subwoofers are a purely artificial need, unlike food, housing, energy, and shitposting.

    Honestly, subwoofers are pretty simple devices. Their only important characteristic is how loud they can go. And if you have nothing it'll always be better than nothing. But if you don't know how to measure and EQ them you won't get good results no matter how much you spend.

      A good quality enclosure and tuning is actually kinda important, ask anyone onto car audio.
      It's legit where most of the cost is now as both amps and the subwoofers themselves have become so dirt cheap.

        Good enclosure - yes, good tuning - not really, subbass is DSP territory.

        How do you tune a subwoofer and towards what?

          Depending on what your looking to achieve a subwoofer enclosure can be tuned to resonate at different frequencies. A box set to a specific frequency will effectively amplify the bass output around that frequency as it resonates in tune with the output of the sub

          There is almost endless things that can be done to really change the output of a sub

          The tuning of the sub itself should maximize the low frequency extension. it can be accomplished by picking an appropriate cabinet volume, ports, passive radiators, etc. We don't want to increase the excursion of the driver any further. Overall shape of the frequency response doesn't matter, you'll be fighting the room with EQ anyway, you'll fix the sub too. Tuning of the entire system should be flat line + bass shelf in near field listening, downward curve + bass shelf in far field listening. This is a measurement problem, not a taste problem, spectrum analyzer will capture way more bass reflections so it will overestimate the level of bass. Try some "house curves" for reference.

    Why would you ever need a subwoofer that big? Do you listen to reggaeton all day?

      bigger = more bass extension

    Save up for a Rythmik or two that suit your room size and don't settle for less. Subwoofers are an absolute pain to move around and the sound is far less subjective than normal speakers due to how low frequencies interact with rooms, so just gun for the best. Very few other brands will give you studio quality (They're actually better than Neumann and Genelec subwoofers) for a similar price. It's probably the only brand I shill for, at least until they inevitably start getting israeli with their pricing.

      i dont get people who rec shit by brands you know "good" brands can make shit products too right?

        That's why Rythmik is the only brand I shill. They don't make garbage, but for real unlike basically all other brands regardless of product. You get good 20Hz extension and low distortion out of all of them, and the primary difference is how loud they can get. You buy based on the size of the room, listening distance, and how loud you want to listen.
