Just bought a new TV and...

it interrupts me mid-show while streaming from my PC on bootleg streaming sites, with a pop-up BUILT INTO THE TV that says "We see you are watching [insert show title] from an unknown provider. Would you like to watch it from one of our recommended providers instead?". This shit is so fricking dystopian. I went through all settings and there's no way to turn it off. Isn't this actually illegal? It's taking screenshots of my PC activity and sending it to external servers without my permission. Can I sue?

pretty sure no smart device should be allowed to be on the internet. Can't you just run everything from your linux pc over hdmi, and have that be the only connection the tv has?

What is the brand and exact model of the TV?

This is exactly the kind of thing modern machine learning can do. Expect it to happen.

Aside from spying on you, how is the TV? Costco has a 65" QD6 4k QLED for $399

Good for the price I guess idk really since I don't get to try a lot of TVs. It doesn't have motion smoothing built in and I wanted motion smoothing. Also its only 60hz i dont like that

motion smoothing is shit, but I dont watch sports so maybe its worth it for that, i just dont like that soap opera effect it does on movies

            >doesn't have motion smoothing built in and I wanted motion smoothing.
            I hate people like you.
I always go over peoples houses and they're watching TVs like NPCs.
Then I tell them wait a second, pause it, menu, disable motion blurring. 9/10 go "lol I don't notice a difference" You're a subhuman of the highest order to want this feature. Ruins kino and turns it into a soap opera feel.

            >getting mad at other people for being npcs while complaining about muh soap opera
you're just as bad. you don't understand the problem, you're only parroting what other people have told you
the problem with interpolation is that it causes artifacts, especially around scene changes
high frame rate video is objectively better than 24fps

Is there no way to turn it off, like in settings or something? Maybe look for something like "customization settings" or something, I don't know?

Oh nevermind I didn't read your shit. You tried to turn it off.

Buy an Android TV or Nvidia shield thing or whatever-the-frick and plug it in as an external OS, or return the TV. Shit sucks.

    >Isn't this actually illegal?
it's much less illegal than using bootleg streaming sites so good luck explaining to the police what the problem is

      >explaining to the police
Are you living in 2012? Police no longer talk to anyone unless you are currently in the process of being violently attacked/robbed. OP would have to file something in a small claims court at best and that's assuming he can't just return the TV. Privacy is not a constitutional right but OP's state might have a bullshit law somewhere that no lawyer would bother to address unless OP is himself a multi-billion dollar company/law firm, which he isn't.

Just don't connect it to the internet. Doubt it is taking screenshots but probably reading the DRM data from the file

Fricking hell I can never buy a modern TV because of ad bullshit and system updates. TVs should just turn on and display. I hate the future.

I remember when Washing Machines would...JUST FRICKING WASH YOUR CLOTHES.
Now my washing machine needs updates from Wifi, and has "automatic load balancing" that always ends with "unable to automatically balance load. please reach in and rebalance manually".
Old machines didn't give a frick if your load was unbalanced, it just...FRICKING WASHED IT

Buy a speed queen TC5 moron.

All high efficiency washing machines are shit and can't get sweat or bodily fluids fully cleaned out of clothes.

The TC5 is the only washing machine that is NOT certified high efficiency and works like the old ones do.
