A 10/10 should mean an album is literally “perfect” - there is no room for refining and the album has a level of quality and meaning that is instantly understood by the listener, regardless of cultural background. I have favourite album of all time and I wouldn’t even consider it being a 10/10.
His reviews aren't great but his encyclopedic knowledge of music is great and his ratings are much more nuanced than what YouTube music critics throw around today.
what you're describing is a universal 10. music is always going to be subjective, no matter how many objective markers of quality we learn to measure. everyone can have their 10s, those albums which are both objectively quality and align with their tastes. but we can all still look up to that universal 10: the album everyone agrees on the score of regardless of taste. that's my perspective at least.

I had him to review this album in very early 2012 through email. He didn't really like it that much and called it old despite it releasing in late 2011.
His 10s have always been dogshit. Even "To Be Kind" and "The Money Store", which are pretty good, is nowhere near a 10. You can argue subjective opinions and all that, but with Fantano, it always feels like he has some sort of agenda to be on the forefront of being the first to popularize an album to gain notoriety for himself.
