Tewahedo has always been respected if not fully accepted by Catholics and Orthodox (similarly to Copts, Syriacs, Nestorians etc). What you're talking about are colonialist narratives that have little to do with Ethiopia's status among Christian nations. It was one of if not the very first kingdom to accept Christianity. It's tradition is continuous and more than impressive given the hostile circumstances.

What the frick are you talking about? Europeans weren't even aware that Ethiopia existed prior to the 15th century and they never held any specific interest of the trade routes over there. As for the Ottomans, they only arrived near the Horn of Africa in 1517 with the conquest of Yemen, they too weren't particularly interested in the trade routes there.
The 1529 Adal-Abyssinia war was simply the apex of a long series of wars that was fought between medieval Ethiopia and the Ifat/Adal state for centuries. No European or Caliphate were involved in these wars until the 16th century nor was it triggered by events happening in Eurasia.
