I only need 2k a month to live an extremely comfortable life in my country. 2k x 12 = 24k. 1M/24k = 41 years. It's almost enough, but I can find safer investments that will make it enough.

You can get interest at your bank, just spread it out over multiple banks so your full balance is insured.

When I made the calculations of how much would my portfolio need to go up to buy a house. Between capital gains and all the taxes that comes with buying a house, I realised it was impossible.

Dont forget that you cant loan the rest if the money is from crypto 🙂 Only way is to buy land with crypto and get a loan for a house to build on it

I’m guessing he lives in Cuckstralia if he’s complaining about exorbitant housing prices and a portfolio that won’t cover it. Buying a median priced house around $1.6M means you have to pay the state government another ~$100k in “stamp duty” which is a transfer tax paid every time property changes ownership. There’s also usually about another $20k worth of fees for conveyancing and inspections and other bullshit bits and pieces because everyone else is trying to take their slice.

1m is enough to build a house on 20 acres and have several wells and solar array, basically leaving you no bills except food for the rest of your life, plus whatever transport expenses you prefer

And here I thought this board was just for morons to talk about gambling on shitcoin, I guess it's also for doomers

You’re a fricking moron. I crossed a million recently and haven’t had money problems since $500k. Now I’m starting to not even have people problems. If $1 million is nothing to you and you really believe that, you’re either extremely rich and it is actually nothing to you or you’re almost as mentally detestable and as much of a wretch as a pedophile. You are incomprehensibly broken.

get out of your capitalist bubble and you will realize that outside the U.S. you can spend your whole life trying to spend that money and you won't manage to spend it all. Not even if you bought 1 million $SUPER

Dude, it's bleak as hell out there. I crossed the $1m mark in 2016 and had the usual brief joy before realizing... oh, yeah. This doesn't actually buy me a better house, a lavish five star trip, let alone more free time. It still makes owning a luxury vehicle a frivolous thing and women still laugh at you if you peawiener like you're a big success and she finds out you're barely at seven figures.

My new goal became $3 mill very fast. In 2018, I ran the numbers and all things seemed possible there for a modest life on auto-pilot without needing to worry about work. But now? In 2024 where prices are bonkers and you just know they are going to keep helicopter Joe in the White House somehow?

It still isn't shit. I am at about $5m and it still feels like frick shit.

You need over $1m alone in most parts of the country to just to afford a decently new, good-sized house that isn't a Boomer littler box from 1980 with ten thousand problems. If you average at least $400K in annual income and have $3m+ net, then yeah, *maybe* you can finally go to Maui for a couple weeks with a top quality stay at the Four Seasons. But it will still feel like a little pinch when it runs you $30K.

Based on my experience and many others, the big boys' club now starts at $10m minimum in this hyperinflated economy. A crummy Midwestern town house will cost more than $500K in a couple more years. That should fricking scare you, and trust me, the earnings that require effort don't get any easier with age. Accumulate as much money as you can by any means possible. Your life literally depends on it.
