I applied to internships but never got any and my projects are mediocre. I'm just going to wait for an economic collapse.

no offense, but if you graduated before 2022 and you couldn’t find a job you need to take a good look at yourself. In this economy no job experience at 24 = doomed.

Can't you get some temp/contract entry level thing doing jeet work at a code mill for peanuts?
You might have to keep living with Mom and dad for a year or two but you'll demonstrate that you can show up to meetings on time and pay attention and complete basic coding tasks without micro-management or constant corrections, which to managers is like the first frame on the Vince McMahon meme.

make that 27, but i have career switched from graphic design to CS and did a 2 year associate degree + worked on several projects and hunting clients on upwork

but goddamn the market is brutal, i would say for FAANG they no longer care about how clean your code is or what you worked on, they only care about your certificates, your age and same repetitive problem solving and your referrals

for medium to small sized companies, they care about 5+ years of experience

you don't even need to have started a company, just doing projects and working with and learning from knowledgable people would have been enough, some people are just way too lazy though

So I had to take about 20 tech interviews last week, it was mostly a junior role but we allowed up to 2 years of experience for it. Of them, only 3 managed to successfully complete the problem we gave them, and it was the most basic shit you'll ever see.

It was not a hackerrank problem or whatever, just do an API call (literally a requests.get(url)), parse the response, then do some basic calculations. It shouldn't have taken more than 15 minutes, but just 3 people finished, with some not even managing to do the api call.

Mind you these were all already filtered by 2 interviews before getting to me, they were all good students from some of the best universities, yet they failed extremely basic shit.

As long as you're not moronic you are already better than 95% of the applicants.

      >Mind you these were all already filtered by 2 interviews before getting to me
and several rounds of HR who have no idea what they're doing cutting everyone who would've known how to solve the basic problems lmao

I mean if you can solve the problem but you are autistic we don't want you either. That said, we don't really have interviews with HR here, all of them are with the dev team.

I've participated in a few hackaton and the thing that filter the most people are api calls.
