pretty much this, fits better with Windows themes. I bought it to support him after decades of using the trial version lel.

i've HEARD anons say, while shitting on 7zip, that the 7z format is very prone to corruption. idk. i keep both around because rar still provides good compression ratio.

WOMM, but nonetheless 7zip supports multiple archive formats.

        >very prone to corruption
wtf is this even supposed to mean? If shit spontaneously corrupts then your HDD is fricking dying.
rar is proprietary trash and I doubt that it will do better than LZMA2

          >rar is proprietary trash and I doubt that it will do better than LZMA2
i just want to clarify, i'm not dissing LZMA2 or any of the other methods like Deflate. zstandard is also great.

I simply hate it when I see shit compressed as .rar and I'm forced to install unrar on Linux, why use this proprietary shit when you can just use 7z or zip.

            i prefer using 7zip.

            fair.

            >format
            7zip isnt limited to .7z.
            .rar, .zip, .tar.gz etc.

i know. they were specifically talking about 7z alone.

Win11 has in-built 7zip extractor now. It's similar to how they have windows defender for av. You don't need more. Frick 7zip and frick you.

both. 7-zip can compress into smaller archives, but the GUI lacks the option "archive each file/folder into separate files", while winrar has it. peazip has it too though, and does 7zip LZMA2, but for some reason ends up slightly bigger than when 7-zip is used

I used to prefer WinRAR because I could drag and drop files from the archive into other applications without extracting them to a directory first

I got a lot of backups and shit kept in compressed files so winrars recovery record + archive search makes 7zip pretty useless for me

Same, works 95% of the time. For the other 5% (and for scripting) I have 7zip CLI just in case.
