that processor was considered overpriced at release, being only marginally better than the 5600X and costing twice as much. they only got away with that pricing because people who wanted a 5600X couldn't always find one due to shortages. a 40% discount probably brings it to what it should have been from the start

It was $200 for the last two years. This price drop is because they made a 5700x3d.

you are mistaking the 5700x for the 5800x moron
5700x wasn't even out yet during the shortages
the 5700x literally is a much cheaper slightly worse binned 5800x and has always been considered excellent value

you can get a 12600k for $20 less than that and it has an iGPU and is faster

I would just wait until at least the rtx5000 series to even consider upgrading. Plus there are no good new games. Once gta 6 comes out I would consider maybe upgrading depending on performance. I have a 5700x/3060 12gb/32gb ddr4 and mostly play morrowind and sometimes rdr2 and gtav.

If he was emulating lots of xbox360/ps3 stuff and maybe compiling some stuff, but he himself said he only plays rockstar games and morrowind so who knows.

I went from 45fps to 60fps in 4k in rdr2 and about the same in multiple other (more poorly optimized) games like american truck simulator and day z by upgrading from my 3600.

same here, but going from 2600 to 5700x with an rx 580
people really underestimate how bad at single threading early ryzens where, ets2 and ats only use a single thread and their old ass engine wasn't designed to handle the complexity of newer map dlcs

not my video, but this is exactly what I was facing before upgrading
I also got better performance on gta 4, cs:go (which was unfortunately replaced by cs2 which isn't cpu bound anymore), my summer car, and plenty of other games
blows my mind that people keep upgrading to brand new shiny gpus while on early ryzen and you get called a moron if you upgrade the cpu first when that shit gets bottlenecked hard by 7 year old gpus

            >people really underestimate how bad at single threading early ryzens where
was obvious before the first one was even released. it's why i waited for second gen, but the 2600 in duo time also let me down. by the time i couldn't take it anymore i bought a 5600(non-x). Still doing fine with it, might change over to am5 in a year or two.

The 5600 was the best cpu for the money for a few years there. I built my dads pc with one and gave him my old 1050ti. He ended up buying a used 3060ti for no reason. But without that everything on his pc was like $450 without the gpu and he has a full sized case with a big memory card IO on one of the optical drives that he wanted for all his cameras. AM4 was such a good deal

I am on AM4, it's good enough I see no reason to upgrade. Ryzen 3600 iirc.

Why would you want to switch? Your CPU being too slow? Or just "Please anons I want to cooomsooom tell me I should"

      >is 10% ipc increased while still only using the 8core ccx worth it?
      No.
Wake me up when the 16 core ccx makes it into desktop. Though I wouldn't put it past AMDs sandbagging like it's haswell ass to have desktop stuck at 8 cores 5 years from now when the datacenter has 64 core complexes in their cpus. Because frick you that's why.

      >AM4
looking for a budget to mid-tier build (1080p)
      >AM5
      looking for a mid-tier to hight-ier build (1440p-4k)
AM5 mobos and DDR5 RAM will add a lot to your budget

it's not Rembrandt so it works on any board that supports ecc of which there are quite a few for AM4

i might buy that chip next week, im currently on a ryzen 5 2600 right now, its served me well for a long time but now that i've got so much shit installed on my machine it's getting laggy.

??? why would the amount of stuff you have installed affect performance???

Some morons install a lot of shit that stays running from start up.
Other morons (like me) like to have over 1000 tabs open at once instead. But I've got 64gb of RAM so my PC can handle it.

Nta but let me see if I've got this right.
He's installing a bunch of shit on his boot drive then letting everything startup and stay running in the background?
I know that we all start somewhere, however this is woman tier behavior
