I used the package manager for a bit, but it is exceedingly slow.

Nonguix is great but packages are out of date and you’ll have to get your hands dirty if you need bleeding edge

1 year is the oldest I’ve seen. Somethings get updates frequently like browsers etc

I'm afraid I'll have to break down my arch setup for me to test it on hardware. I was used to yearly windows installs and had some best practices for it but windows' fundamental flaw is that it's windows and I never managed to backup everything. Sounds damn appealing.
I would need to know the state of flatpak there though.

I use it on my laptop with nonguix and it's pretty neat. I don't use guix-home yet though. The guys in irc are usually friendly even when asking very dukb questions

been running guix system + guix home + nonguix on my laptop for about 2 years, it's great

only problems are updating can be slow (especially if you wait), and although the official documentation is great (unlike Nix), there are very few community resources outside of IRC

you also might have to package some software yourself, but guix makes that extremely easy and let's you do so without littering your system with a bunch of crap files/build tools

Sounds cool anon, what's the benefit of using guix home?

it lets you declaratively manage your user level packages + environment, in addition to the standard declarative configuration of your system level packages and settings

so I install all of my packages by listing them in my home-configuration.scm file, which is also where I declare my ENVs and things like that, and then I simply

        guix home reconfigure home-configuration.scm

now I'm able to do rollbacks, or import custom packages without having to set up a channels, etcetc via a single scheme file
