are there any actual good historical podcasts?

I dont feel like paying for audiobooks but I also want to listen to something in the background to learn, however Ive heard that a lot of podcasts are totally pop history bullshit
what would you guys recommend? Im mainly interested in the bronze age and antiquity, but Im willing to listen to anything if its not garbage

Read a book if you want more than pop history. At best you'd have podcasts run by professors like Byzantium and friends

It also takes hours to read a book about Attila the Hun which is Pop history. Amount of time doesn't somehow make it better or scholarly.
Literally read a book, read a primary source, read scholarship. Stop being a lazy mf

I like History Debunked and Survive the Jive. Michael Sugrue the philosopher also talks a lot about history. Any lectures by Kenneth Harl are worth a listen.

    SSS Tier:
    >History of Rome
    >History of England
    >Kings and Generals Podcast Season 3 China Rise and Fall
    A Tier:
    >History of Byzantium
    >In Our Time (topical, not always about history, can be a bit woke depending on guests)
    B-C Tier:
    >History of Bulgaria
    >A History of Christian Theology
    C-D Tier:
    >History of Japan
    >History of the Papacy
    >China History Podcast
    Shit tier:
    >Any "comedy" history podcasts (reddit humor), any histroy podcast which mentions alcohol, or generally gives of pop vibes. They're so fricking bad. Unbelievably bad.

As a general rule you want to look for "History of" podcasts because they follow Mike Duncans influential style and tend to be on average of higher quality. Shit like "Ridiculous history"/"History that doesn't suck!" is moron tier and to be avoided.

I suggest https://www.youtube.com/c/FallofCivilizationsPodcast/videos The vids with the stock blue sky and pillars is just voice. The others with varied pics have photos, art, some sims. The whole series is great.
A good starter is the Sumerians https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d2lJUOv0hLA which I strongly suggest

I’m currently listening to this podcast. The History of the Germans. Its structured. The host does research and writes a script to read. It starts with Henry the Fowler and plans to go all the way to German reunification on the 1990s.

The host is an actual history professor as his main job.
His series on Joan of Arc is fantastic.
