GTK can be used from any language and does not require an additional compiler, unlike Qt.

You have never written a graphical application in either toolkit anyway.

It should be noted that they're all working on Wayland compatibility, as is Xfce.

I have a think pad running Debian LXqt and i like it.

I just wish that the WiFi worked but that's just par for the course with Debian.

suckless tools in general are trash
        >oh yes, you have to program in your changes and recompile the app to configure it, isn't that cool (:
what's the point? if you're not ok with it, then it fricking sucks, and if if you are, you might as well program your own tools
        literally no use case

Just get the patches you want and compile it, then you're done. What's the problem? Too difficult to edit a bit of C code or apply git patches? dwm gives you any setup you want with minimal resource usage and dependency bloat. That said, I love Xfce and it's what I'd recommend to normies.

          >dwm (suckless)

          Tiling is optional.

XFCE doesn't even support Wayland. It's outdated. Besides, awesomewm is much more minimalist.

literally one of the reasons I'm using it

just how poor and brown do you need to be to have a pc so bad that xfce is your only option

I have a 5900X, a 3070Ti and 64GB of RAM and run xfce. it's simply the best DE on Linux

That's a feature. I run even GNOME on X11 because it works better (e.g. no mouse stuttering) despite GNOME and now KDE pushing hard for Wayland as the default.

Pardon me for being technically illiterate, but isn't XFCE an excellent choice for laptops? My understanding is that multi-monitor shit is fricked up to all hell in X, so Wayland exists to address that issue (and other issues???). On a laptop (ignoring of course the potential to dock, which never comes up for me since I own a desktop too) it seems like X is way better than Wayland. X is much more stable than Wayland, with the latter responsible for a lot of Linux crashes. Fractional scaling I'm also reading here is better on Wayland, or at least more varied options exist. Is everything I wrote here reasonable accurate? What else is going on with the X vs. Wayland saga?

      >My understanding is that multi-monitor shit is fricked up to all hell in X,
Your "understanding" is wrong. You fell for propaganda. Multimonitor support has worked fine on X for decades, since long before Wayland even existed.

Part of me wants to install Devuan with xfce to escape the SystemD and GNOME jails. But then... it really does just werk.

The only distributions I've seen that do Xfce PERFECTLY are MX Linux, Fedora, Arch, Void, Gentoo, and their derivatives. All other distributions I've used Xfce on have failed to incorporate one or more longstanding bugfixes from mainline Xfce (largely polkit and upower related, which is most noticeable on laptops). Yes, this even applies to Debian, Xubuntu and Mint.
