Pretty sure they're confused about something. Plutarch's Life of Dion reports Dionysius of Syracuse putting his lifebin the hands of a Spartan named Pollius who took him to be sold in Aegina, where tensions with Athens in the decade after Socrates died resulted in the Aegineans enslaving any Athenians who came their way. The fact that the researchers aren't confident whether it had to be before or after Socrates died suggests some uncertainty about what they're reading. It could also be that the author, Philodemus, is giving a different report or is himself mixed up on the timeline.

I just think it's amazing how ancient people lacked any sort of critical self reflection. The dude suffered under slavery and it didn't even occur to him that maybe slavery is not all that good enough to outright justify it. Literal npc tier shit.

        >critical self reflection
Posts like this are so much worse than any parody of morons like you. If you have no support network or knowledge to support yourself you can only hope to be taken in by a powerful house as a slave, this still applies in some places today where the slaves themselves are the most vocal about the need for the system. As a renowned scholar slavery for him would mean being forced to educate some prince in some luxurious court, the thing he likes doing anyway.

Even in his utopian visions it didn't even occur to him to abolish slavery and distribute wealth to slaves as reparations. That's how pathetic his imagination and moral conscience was.

            >um why didn't he just create the conditions for market capitalism by abolishing the Greek form of slavery??

Had it ever occurred to you that they knew of the alternatives but still believed slavery is better. Just look at the current state of Black folk. Some people just cant be trusted to be self reliant

You're not real. Nothing about that makes even the slightest bit of sense. In the best possible world the house that saved some incapable peasant should pay him for the privilege of housing, feeding and educating him? Your imagination can't conceive of the consequences of rewarding incompetence?

You guys hear they found his burial site, too? They've apparently located his exact location within the grounds of the Academy. I can't wait to see what's there.

They learned that he was buried by the Mouseion, but the issue there is that there doesn't seem to be consensus on where exactly the Mouseion is in relation to the old gymnasium.

why are modernoids so oblivious to the fact that projecting your own self constantly onto that which you philosophize about is the first biggest mistake you can make and sign you should rather be dabbling into other matters
