Why does everyone call him an ebin political genius when he did something dumb like that?

probably because attempting to take more would just lead to the other powers getting involved which was what he wanted to prevent, its not like he also didn't account for France being bitter either since he put in a huge amount of effort to placate the other powers so they would ignore Frances attempts at getting allies to take back that region

Who wouldve stopped them from annexing all of france though, the other countries militaries were a joke and germany probably wouldve won an early ww1 with france taken out.

Balance of power, you utter moron. This was ignored by Hitler in WW2 and arguably already with the Septemberprogramm in WW1.
You see how that worked out for Germany.
The old adage “Germany, too big for Europe, too small for the world” is true. Germany due to variety of factors has the tendency to achieve a hegemonic position within Europe, but just so that they are barely able to take on one or two other European great powers without being squashed, hence the need for diplomacy and moderation preventing the formation of large hostile coalitions.
Bismarck understood this, Willhelm and Hitler didn’t.

10th grade is not a good basis for understanding German history.
Please, take a college course. A Paradox game is more informative than all your education.
Fricking COD WaW is more informative than your education lmfao.

          >france will hate us
          >france will hate us, but we have a more defensible position
He should've annexed these lands, and given other to Belgium, Italy, Spain.

The issue is that that looks fundamentally ugly. There is either an active divine force preventing big border gore on maps, or diplomats and statesmen always instinctively agree not to create border gore even when it would be beneficial.

that would have just ensured france would fight on and certainly a bong intevention, meaning a blockade which would be even worse for a recently united Germany

They had already capitulated and had commies in Paris to worry about.
What would they be able to do against 4 fronts?

            >four fronts
except that wouldn't be happening, because none of them would accept such an offer, that and the german army was having major problems with partisans by that point

            >more defensible position
That is a point of contention. Simply more land (with a population that is hostile towards you) isn't inherently more defensible.

that would have just ensured france would fight on and certainly a bong intevention, meaning a blockade which would be even worse for a recently united Germany

This. Especially an intervention by the UK, Russia and even Austria could not be ruled out if they tried to wipe France of the map.

German troops aided the french government with the suppression of the uprisings, had problems with suppling the siege of Paris and fending of the popular armies. They were glad, when the french were able to gain control back.

The rivers would've been great to defend, first at Sedan, than Metz, than the Rhine. I highly doubt the French can break through 3 river-lines.

Perhaps if the Germans were able to enforce them. That still doesn't matter als the UK can attack through Belgium and Russia, Austria and Denmark directly border them as well.

This. Plus Baden and Württemberg were not to keen on being border states and wanted a buffer zone.
