Søren tells us that humour and irony are resilient to the movement of absolute resignation 🙂

Does he now? I need to read more of him. Truth be told, the mere beginning of the Sickness Unto Death was so powerful it changed my entire perspective on human affairs. I've scarcely read a word of him since. I just keep savoring the revelation. It seems absurd, but I can hardly move past it. It was that brilliant!

That hot pink cover immediately takes me to an unhappy place, so yes, appletini is the right choice of drink. We shall call this pairing, Misery.

I actually can’t really drink and read. A lone beer or glass of wine, perhaps. But I drink for effect and once I am effected reading is kinda off the table

      coffee + every book ever
drinking alcohol is kind of pointless. unless you're a drunk (no judgement, me too) the only practical activity that involves alcohol is eating or socialising.

Opposite for me, the only way I can read for long stretches is by drinking, otherwise I'm too anxious and my thoughts race

Eventually you will realize that your drink of choice is the best pairing for any book and best pairing for everything in life. For me it is Nordeast and E&J VSOP.

    What does alcohol taste like?

      Anonymous

It tastes like tart fruit in weak concentration or like cleaning solutions in strong formulations.
Its effect on the mind and body is akin to a haze of fog settling on a seeded field. The boy with the rattle (in my conception, Hardy's Jude) says to himself - no work needs doing, no birds will brave to scavenge in the fog, and I am here alone and lost and happy.

Currently re-reading Steinbeck's Cannery Row for a comfy break between heavier reads - drinking a strong stout and it's pairing quite nicely.
