clone ssd to larger ssd

>have a PC
>same setup since 2016
>C: is just a 250GB SSD
>it's getting full slowly
>will need to format at some point
>can't be bothered to do it
>extremely bored to go through this
>have this idea to get a big SSD, copy my C: in it, turn off PC, swap new C: with old C:, leave old out of PC, turn it on
Will this work?
Can I copy my C: to a larger SSD and simply just exhange it in the system?

Install a fresh winblows and just copy all the files you need from old to new. You will save time and sanity because
For instance you need to at least get bootloader on the new SSD and you're better off just reinstalling entire winbloats from the get go. I did try once to get an existing windows on an existing bootloader, had the efi files and all, still would've saved time just reinstalling windorks.

Just adding that in princible you could just dd a clone but if you don't know what is dd and what it stands for you're still saving time reinstalling and manually moving your files.
+ it's never that simple in the end

      op here.
I also have moved My Documents to D:
C: is not a partition of a drive, it's just one 250GB drive.

Wouldn't mind to pay something to do this.

      >get 1TB SSD
      >install windows 10 on it
      >move things I want from C:
      >????
What happens to Program Files then? The registries and all that, pirated Adobe suites and all that?
It's going to be like a format then.

You would want to image the whole drive not just the C: partition and then resize it after restoring. You might run into problems if you have BitLocker enabled.

first you need to partition your new disk same as your new one, then copy everything over for each partition essentially mirror them. at last swap the disks then jump off a building after do a flip, homosexual.

Get a Linux distro with a live cd mode then watch this video. This guy explains every step clearly and properly shows you how to clone your drives.

don't do this since OP made pretty much clear that he doesn't know about computers

You can do that but you need to use specific software to clone the entire drive, you can't just copy/paste the C: partition.

Clonezilla, the destination drive is bigger than the source which fits your usecase perfectly.

say you buy a samsung ssd, samsung magician will do this. WD also has software that will do this, idk if it even has to be a WD HDD/SSD to use it.
