Just curious, but what would be my DE of choice if I were an unemployed homosexual brown man?

LXDE = Openbox + GTK panel and core apps
LXQt = Openbox + Qt panel and core apps
They are about the same in terms of memory consumption and responsiveness, but 99.9% of development has moved on to LXQt, so there is absolutely no reason - aside from sentimentality or ignorance - to stick with LXDE.

Openbox hasn't been updated in a decade, why are troons clinging to it when there are better things, is it because the dev was a woman?

LxQT becomes lighter only in a distro that forces you into QT modules loaded onto memory anyway

If you dont use QT 5, and then put in LXQT it is definitely much larger memory footprint from then on, when compared to plain X.org + IceWM and some mandatory KDE and Gnome libraries on the background and no QT at all (most of user interface would be GTK 2 and GTK 3, you're internet browser would be GTK 2 probably, in ideal case if it works)

with that kind of setup you get into 500MB memory foot print, with QT5 involved its impossible to go lower than 1000MB

On Sparky Linux with LXQt I'd boot into a desktop consuming no more than 450 MB RAM. Under Lubuntu it was more like 700, and under Fedora + LXQt it was about the same as Lubuntu. A lot of it has to do with greeter, power manager, and other services that run in the background. It's why people say a number of different DEs aren't actually light, when they are.

it is more about what else you run, even kde can be run in under 500M if it's all that's running

            >you're doing it wrong then
Reading comprehension. I was clearly posting about LXQt as implemented across a few different distros with the default OOTB configuration.

I like how lightweight it is, but I always have strange bugs whenever I use it, like the mouse settings not working properly. I just end up changing it through xinput most of the time. For that reason I prefer XFCE or Cinnamon.
