homie the judge is simply Joe Christmas without dimensions to him you're a fricking idiot kek Faulkner wrote the villainous side of the brain to heights way higher then le judge. Kek. Fricking kek. Jason is also better but Joe Christmas is the real archetype in the judges case

            >Set in the author's present day, the interwar period, the novel centers on two strangers, a pregnant white woman and a man who passes as white but who believes himself to be of mixed ethnicity. In a series of flashbacks, the story reveals how these two people are connected to another man who has deeply impacted both their lives.

            >In a loose, unstructured modernist narrative style that draws from Christian allegory and oral storytelling, Faulkner explores themes of race, sex, class, and religion in the American South. By focusing on characters who are misfits, outcasts, or otherwise marginalized in their community, he portrays the clash of alienated individuals against a Puritanical, prejudiced rural society. Early reception of the novel was mixed, with some reviewers critical of Faulkner's style and subject matter. However, over time, the novel has come to be considered one of the most important literary works by Faulkner and one of the best English-language novels of the 20th century.

I ain't read Faulkner, and I never will. Stop pestering me with your gay shit anon.

Faulknergays are dimwits. Joe christmas is literally a quarter black and illiterate. If he is similar to holden to some reader that's only because that reader is mentally challenged.

Judge Holden's intellect is literally half his character. Joe christmas may as well be God from the Bible if you are gonna be that broad and inclusive in assessing character. (Which he migt even be, to Faulknergays)

Judge Holden is likened to many things but your assertion is definitely the wildest, most random one that I've seen.

Pic related. If Joe Christmas is even a villain, he is the least interesting and least memorable among Faulkner's gallery of evil men, and Faulkner only ever wrote mediocre villains. There is no comparison with Judge Holden. With the exception of Sutpen, Faulkner doesn't even have a villain of Chigurh's calibre. You can jack off to le psychology like it's some crime drama, but that isn't how literature works. The most memorable villain in literature, God of the Old testament, is largely a mystery, which is why it works. Holden is of the same breed.

This is by far the least nuanced reading of the books. It's the most superficial reading possible. Very ironic statement. Blood meridian has more going on beneath than any Conrad book, let alone the book that's Conrad's offering to high schools.

We got a 14 year old edgelord over here boys, he says he wants more of the Nitty gritty, the scalpings and slow whittling down of the crew isn't enough for him he says he doesn't like none of that fairy nature depiction bullshit this homies getting in the salty spittoon alright. Frick dude it's weird coming back here and seeing people's perception of books after reading the first 350 pages of demons and Nikolai Gogol for the whole year, you're ADHD as frick dude you crave constant action even though if you look critically at blood Meridian you'd realise that the kid wandering were actually the parts of the book that made it so amazing, beneath the edgelord persona of wanting to constantly see atrocities (like there isn't already plenty) there is a decent book, but suttree is better so i do not care

I think that side of it is the most interesting. The utter barbarism of each party involved it really does give you an idea of how far removed they are from our modern day thinking. I mean I know it is fictional but it made me think of how naively people view history through a modern lens. But hey maybe I am just an edgelord too,

I've read Demons though, it was a good read, although admittedly I'd probably end up getting bored of that as well if I didn't know beforehand what it was about.
The descriptions of southwest north America are equal parts beautiful and terrifying, but McCarthy overindulges in them, is my point.

Currently reading it as well. I think it really is amazing at some points. But all of the riding and logistics essentially are kinda dull. I skim whenever they're on horseback but whenever something is actually happening. It's so exciting.

this is how I picture the judge when I'm reading this book. One of my gripes with the book is the author doesn't really physically describe any of the other characters so it's hard to know who is who, or even how many people are in a given scene. I think he writes drunk.

Faulkner and McCarthy don't even compare. Faulkner is an all-time great and one of the best writers of all time. McCarthy wrote modern mass marketable books aimed at the casual reader.
