I'm literally not responsible for anything I do.

Jews literally invented the idea of free will so they could guilt you morons into doing shit they need.

Free will discussions are tiresome because most people are misguided about its implications, determinists are going to have to come up with a completely new word instead of will that doesn't imply a free consciousness attached to it if they want to be taken more seriously and avoid semantic arguments.

If free will isn't real then it would have happened either way

Not really, free will adherents have less israelites on their side.

Christianity is a religion built on blame from the start. God blames Adam, Eve, and the serpent he created for disobeying. Rather than take responsibility, God curses them and expels them from Eden. This pattern of divine accusation toward human moral failings instilled by God himself continues through original sin - all humanity blamed for primordial transgression. Jesus becomes the ultimate scapegoat, taking on sins of humankind through his sacrifice to provide redemption. By having Jesus absorb all culpability, Christians position themselves as eternal victims, never required to take true responsibility for their own transgressions. This stands in contrast to a faith like Buddhism, which emphasizes radical self-accountability and inner transformation as the path to enlightenment, without reliance on blaming outside forces or transferring guilt onto saviour figures.

    No one is

In the end why are you *you*? Why do you behave the way you do? Think the way you do? Act the way you do? Want the things you want?

It’s because of some combination of genetics and your environment. But we have no control over either. We don’t control who raises us, where we’re born, what we’re surrounded by as a highly impressionable child.

So in the end we don’t have anywhere near the control over our lives we think we do. If you had different genetics and were raised differently you’d end up being a completely different person. The only thing that separates you from the people you love, admire, hate, and pity is chance.

      >It’s because of some combination of genetics and your environment.
      >It's because of some combination of things that when microscopically examined eventually dissolve into a field layer of television static that stops following the laws of physics and loses coherent form structure
This is a very strong claim you're making here

You can't refute that claim because you can't show how we have control over our actions, we are simply reacting to the environment.

Anons claim was that genetics and environment impact behavior in a wholly deterministic way. I am saying that both genetics and environment when analyzed at their "essence" turn into a cosmic soup of Nothing that stops obeying Laws.
So that seems like it throws a monkey wrench into the thesis.

What makes you think things are determined at the material level? Why would God reveal his plans?

            Anonymous

But that doesn't change anything. Determined means that your actions exist in a finite set. There are things you can and can't do. For instance, you can't just sprout wings and fly or change your emotions at will; it means certain behaviours are inevitable, not that they are necessarily predictable.

Free will might exist if consciousness causes wavefunction collapse.

    >free will man!
    >98% of all people spend their times doing the exact same thing in such ridiculous ways that you could even try to predict what they would say or think without even as much as asking them
Talking about free will is even part of what determinism is. You have the free will to think that you have free will, only to do the exact same thing as millions of others are doing.

except determinism is out. fricking mathematicians in the 40s knew that. read up on the heisenberg uncertainty principle as well as Godel's paper on undecidable propositions in mathematical systems. also even a basic understanding of quantum physics refutes determinism.

    fricking amateur hour here

never read either, i'm just familiar with both of their works and ideas/claims via secondary sources but i doubt that you will regret reading them. the only primary source i read regarding these was that Godel paper i mentioned
