Your mind just adjusts to it and does all the work. The landing, Garden battle or Edea assassination in VIII were unbelievable back then, especially the way it transitions from relaitme to FMV or you can walk around during FMVs.

Playing FF7 this week for the first time, about to parachute back into Midgar and beat the game. Yes, it is incredibly "cinematic" in a way that feels wholly unique to the medium and far more genuine than modern games that just try to copy movies. It's not a great story by any means, but it just feels like such a fricking huge journey and the scale is so epic. The artists really poured their souls into making those pre-rendered backgrounds and there are a staggering amount of them, some of which you see for 5 seconds or less despite their quality. You have to remember that most gamers went from SNES/Genesis to PS1 and the introduction of things like FMVs, voice acting (not that FF7 has any) and a larger number of unique assets was just mind boggling.

FF7 had a gigantic marketing budget but the reason the hype worked so well was because it also looked so cool to just about every demographic of males.

Yes, the field models are funny little chibi guys that do their best to approximate the portraits and battle models. But if your brain can't appreciate the beauty and charm of little low poly guys interacting over a melodrama plot with amazing music and memorable characters, you're just a homosexual.

The suggestion that everything needs to be realistic for it to be "cinematic" makes me want to gouge your eyes out you fricking zoomer Black person. This is why everyone hates your moronic ADHD generation, you have no soul or appreciation for abstraction. You just see graphics that are of a lower standard than 360/PS3 and say DAMN THATS SO MID, DOGWATER AF and pay no mind to lighting, aesthetics, character designs, use of colour etc. I actively bad for you guys but at the same time wish your generation nothing but despair, which you already seem to be wallowing in.

zoomers seem to be in that kincade mentality. Everything is so over the top, glowing, reflective, that anyone with an ounce of taste just finds it gaudy and garish. They won't realize it for years to come like when we look back at our myspace profiles.

When I played gran Turismo on a demo disc for my PlayStation I was so blown away. I remember thinking there's literally no way games could be closer to real lmao

One of the tests for intelligence is being able to accept abstract concepts and understand how they apply to reality.

No, but i can still enjoy things that are not just 100% generic realistic looking.

    1. We used our imaginations
    2. When the art is so distinct from real life, it almost becomes its own reality. You kind of get sucked into this new universe where the physics and aesthetics are completely different from our universe. It's like a reverse-uncanny-valley.
