    Why would I do that?

Why the frick would you remove windows defender. I don't use windows anymore but when i did it saved my ass multiple times.
And if you know its wrong about something you can just briefly turn it off or add rules. There is literally nothing wrong with windows defender.

I seem to never get viruses but the firewall is nice

if it had to "save your ass" then you're a moron. I've had no anti virus running for 20 years.

The entire point of windows defender is that people CAN be moronic and it will strong arm them into not adding their computer to a botnet, otherwise nearly every PC in tthe world within a 10 meter radius of a child would be running "free robux.exe" in the background 24/7
People like us seldom need it, but even so, its not the devil and as anon says rules can be added or you can just get around it temporarily for your purpose.

Yeah, I just have it suppressed as a low priority process that doesn't do any automatic scans but atleast I can consult with it in case I ever (very rarely) find anything suspicous. Never had anything damning come out but it takes barely ~10mbs memory in the background and is a good assurance in case you have your suspicions. It's less scummy than any third party antivirus anyway (which is saying a lot for a microsoft product)

Yes. I have ~4 hard drives and 2 SSDs. Defender would always scan my hard drives and my ssds. It was a pain in the neck.

It's so odd to see linux at 15%

      Poos love that shit.

It has nothing to do with indians loving linux and everything to do with them hating mac. Jobs hated india for some reason and treated it with malice when it came to apple related shit, as such indians dont really buy that stuff or like it. so if an indian wants a UNIX experience, they go with linux. Notice how despite having such a high percentage in linux, it doesnt eat into the windows percentage at all, in fact their windows percentage is even higher than the US.

Entire window using population in US is probably smaller than the entire linux users in India.

I strongly doubt that. You are underestimating the proportion of the Indian population that are basically just rural farmers with the most basic of infrastructure.

Look at japan vs India, they use Windows like 1% more than them but their linux usage is below 1%. They just don't like using linux, same thing for India.

the japanese aren't really tech literate when it comes to computers. For example they still use fax machines in 2024. This is also why pc gaming never took off in japan, barely anyone has a pc for gaming over there. Most people don't even know what an operating system is or that you can change windows to something else.

It's so odd to see linux at 15%

It has nothing to do with us loving linux or hating mac. It has everything to do with the fact that literally every single indian is running a pirated copy of windows. I know normalgays, SWEs and techbros alike around here and 99.9% of them use windows, a lot of them unregistered and unactivated versions of xp and 7. Many of these pcs never connect to the internet either.

Can't you just turn it off with one registry key? That's what I did
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREPoliciesMicrosoftWindows Defender]
    "DisableAntiSpyware"=dword:00000001
