      No they dont.

I'm in the small minority that turned my childhood obsession (coding) into a career, hereby "doing what I loved" for a living.
It was okay. I still dreaded going to work every Monday morning, mostly because I felt like an impostor and deep know I knew this this was the weekend they had finally all realized I was a fraud. But coding itself was fun.
Yet even then, I stopped working as soon as I could. Turns out I can code whatever I want just as well in my own time without having to deal with workplace idiosyncrasies.
In the end, I worked for 22 years back to back, and even that kinda feels like too much in retrospect.
      Anyway, UBI now, and such.

My coworker died in office from a stroke. He worked in that chair for 48 years. Shit is fricked. 48 years without a promotion.

You essentially have to if you're American because it costs too much to pay for your own health insurance without either an employer or the medicare you aren't eligible for until age 65.

The worst part is that modern jobs are by little means useful to your community, and your compensation for work only goes up with the harm to society that you propagate.

Work remotely, get 2-3 simultaneous full time jobs, roll in the cash for 10 years, retire at 30 with a fat investment portfolio.

No reasonable company would limit itself to one single customer. Likewise no reasonable employee should limit themselves to one single salary.

Absolutely correct, the less actual productive work I do, the more money I make.

Work remotely and stop giving a frick. Who cares if you get fired if you're clocking into two other jobs. Eventually you'll end up with a small collection of jobs that don't fire for mediocrity. It's a simple genetic algorithm, to use CS terms. Survival of the fittest (for exploitation).

When you try it, you'll quickly find that it's surprisingly easy to avoid getting fired. 2 hours per week per job is all it takes for the right jobs.

You think the company will pause for even a second before laying you off, leaving you and your family potentially hungry and homeless in 3 months time? Who's the real sociopath.

Last year, 1 week before Thanksgiving, guy at my company got laid off. Last October, 500 employees got laid off.

Not for poor performance. Only because interest rates increased and the stock price was slipping.

Diversifying your income is the only sensible option when company loyalty to employees is non existent.

Question from a Europoor. So I assume that when you're a kid, you're included in your parents insurance. Is there like an age limit? Do they have to pay an extra or something if they happen to have a neet son in their 20s?

Yes, it's usually 24 but will depend on the insurance company and state laws.

Thank fricking god I have financially literate parents who told me to invest in the SP500 when I turned 18. I have $630k in my non-registered account and $100k in my TFSA after 10 years of working since I was 15 years old.

What a bunch of softies. You think working for pay that is kept reasonable by market economics is slavery.

You are selling your labor on an open market which is affected by supply and demand conditions. Your employer has to buy your services from you. Hardly slavery.
