Personally i am more concerned with eldritch shit in X than with limited compatibility of Wayland. As for KDE i dropped it around 4 and still say most problems there are KDE problems more than system problems.

It's always novideo users with buggy proprietary drivers. All the random crashes disappeared when I switched to AMD with the amdgpu driver.

        Yeah AMDs drivers are fantastic

Still much better than the Nvidia UX.

Those are amdgpu issues, not KDE's though. But it's a fact that the default experience is better than with nvidia.

All these issues are easy to work around. There are no workarounds for NVIDIA, their driver sucks universally.

            >All these issues are easy to work around
You actually can't work around the memory clock bug and VRR flicker. You can only reduce your clocks with cvt12 on some monitors with some refresh rates. Can't fix the VRR problems at all. Regardless, the fact that AMD hasn't fixed or mitigated them is the real issue. The power reclocking can be fixed by shipping a one-line udev rule. They care even less about linux consumers than nvidia does.

I just updated my KDE Neon and it installed wayland. fricking garbage ass compositor effects everywhere chugging CPU and GPU. went back to x11 immediately. when they finally drop support for x11 I think I'm going to go back to win7 and just not interact with anything modern again.

      >when they finally drop support for x11
I doubt that will come anytime soon. One thing is keep it in maintenance mode, other is dephasing it completely. if there ever comes it would be at least when we have Qt7 and Plasma 7 and that may as well be 10 years away.

      A terribly designed protocol.

X11 is also a protocol, but we became used to Xorg being the only implementation of that protocol.

Unironically works on my machine and made me switch back to Linux after many years of Linux lacking a modern desktop implementation(gnome doesnt count, the only realistic option previously was ancient gnome2 xfeces/cinnamon legacy code)

wayland works just fine for me, also I've got tearing back on my shooty shooty gaymes on plasma

i've been daily driving plasma wayland edition on a radeon for a few years now.
Right now my only complaint is that sometimes when the computer wakes from suspend the whole desktop is stuck on a black screen with the mouse cursor. It used to be way worse in 2022 with the same issue happening more often and HUD/widgets frequently dying and vanishing from the screen.
Desktops and graphics drivers really gotta get their shit together, but i'm not gonna expect too much when the whole linux userbase is 4% of desktop space.

I finally left it for awesomewm. The software suite is nice but kwin is a disaster that hasn't gotten less buggy since plasma 4. Maybe kwinft/theseus' ship will salvage the KDE desktop.
