Take the Microsoft Business Pc option

      Anonymous

I'd pick Macbook for work. Who cares if it's a locked down ecosystem? Work machines are supposed to be a locked down ecosystem. Who cares if it's overpriced if they're paying for it?

Any business larger than 50 people has custom root spyware they need to install on all work machines. Generally that spyware is only going to run on one ecosystem. Either everyone uses Windows or no one uses Windows. Hell, even having a choice between Mac and Linux is rare.

        Anonymous

Was going to say pretty much this.
A company-leased work PC in a fortune 500 company is riddled with spyware, spyware that's probably even keylogging everything you type and taking periodical screenshots. You're supposed to only use it for work related stuff and nothing else. Hell, even work-related research I'd rather do in my own home PC.

So even if given a choice, if the vast majority of the company and people I'll work with on a daily basis are using Macs, that's what I'd pick. If they're using Linux on x86, that's what I'd pick. If most use Haiku, I'd go with that as well. Just to avoid embarassments with experiencing OS-related quirks that most of the staff won't go through and end up thinking I'm wasting their time.

Your company doesn't give half a shit if your work laptop can display a CS:GO frame half a millisecond sooner or survive you chimping out and punching it after you get sniped. This may be a foreign concept to you, but you're expected to do work on it.

I have doubts if apples website says 15 hours browsing in m3 14 mbp. apple has been known to exaggerate themselves. and companies will probably force the employees to use their macbooks at their desks a majority of the time, where there will be a dock and external displays and power.

            Anonymous

Ever since the M series Apple has been UNDERestimating battery life. I regularly get 17 or so hours on my MacBook Pro, and that's not just browsing but actually doing stuff.

            Anonymous

Bigger companies force you to install remotely managed web control/antivirus suites and spyware that will destroy the battery life anyway
I get 11 hours on a good day, it used to be like 18

        Anonymous

I see what you mean by the latency thing coming from windows, but that is a trade-off when it comes to reliability. With a windows machine you'll have better snappiness but somewhere along the lines you'll get just downright jeeted with a VBruntime exception that will feel like you stepped in jeet shit and have to continue working while the smell under the shoe lingers. Thats the best analogy I can come up with when comparing the mac vs win os experience.

Choose the MBP since you make more than enough money to buy all the machines you want for personal use. Work is for MONEY so compatibility with the rest of the team is all that matters.

        Money confers freedom. Congrats OP!

Doesn't matter in the real world since the company will replace it. In business notebooks are disposable. No adult should care about anything but sweet money when it comes to their job. Teengays who deserve to be raped by hobos care about that shit because their c**tish emotions rule their tiny minds (Main Character Syndrome is a helluva drug).

      macbooks have:

    >B-but IQfy told me everybody uses GNU/Linux in the development world!
No we didn't. All startups and well performing tech companies use macbooks, and crumbling enterprises use dell laptops running windows to support some piece of shit windows-only internal software that they acquired three decades ago and built their entire development flow around.
The machines running the services all run Linux, but very few tech companies actually use Linux for development.

All other things aside, just get what most of your colleagues have so if there are any OS-specific quirks about whatever you're developing, your coworkers might have seen them already.
    Imagine this conversation:

"No anon, James and I are seeing Y on Mac instead, and our fix for that is on Confluence. Good luck tho"

i have a mbp from work and i find the UI so bad that i only use it over ssh and only when strictly necessary (to test that everything works as expected on macOS). switching between an editor and a console takes 2 seconds of unskippable animation, during which it neither application receives keystrokes. itoddlers are truly moronic.
