First date no-no's: 11 ways to lose a guy on a first date

For the most part; it doesn't take much for a guy to be interested in a girl. Personally, I get tickled pink when I found out a girl likes me, it's flattering as hell. But that doesn't mean you can go carte blanche on not giving a f*ck whatsoever. There are some red flags and no-nos that'll make me instantly not interested in someone.

If you want a guy to mentally rule you out on a first date, do any of the following.

#1. Excessively using your phone

I'm addicted to my phone, but if you can't put it away for an hour or two, that's a horrible sign of things to come.

#2. Being indifferent to everything

No interests? No passions? Nothing you get excited over? Listen, we all don't know what we want to do with our lives, but if you're not even bothered by not knowing what you want to do with your life, or at least having some type of reaction to that, then you clearly don't have anything to offer to yourself, let alone another person.

#3. Talking sh*t and being a Gossipzilla

It's your first date, so a good rule of thumb is to use the time to get to know each other. But if you start talking smack about ex-SOs or friends you just can't stand, it'll only get me wondering how you'll turn around and talk about me in two seconds.

#4. Going to see a movie

If it's the first time you're going out, sitting in a dark place that frowns upon talking probably isn't the best way to get to know someone.

#5. Not listening or constantly changing the topic of conversation

It's true that most people are just waiting for their turn to speak. And it's pretty easy to combat that: you just listen to what the other person has to say and respond accordingly. But if you bulldoze their interests by switching the topic of conversation only to sh*t that interests you, is a huge turn-off.

#6. Being stuck-up

I'm not talking about the frat-bro definition of being "stuck-up", ie, someone who won't trade nudes after three conversation exchanges. There's a fine line between knowing what you like and being conceited, save harsh judgments/jokes a few dates in - I made this mistake too many times and came off as an abrasive douche.

#7. Too much ex talk

You'd think this one was a no-brainer. I'm not saying bringing up exes is always a bad thing. Lots of people have been in previous relationships, but if the girl is constantly bringing up her ex, that means she's still thinking about him, and probably just using me as a distraction, which sucks.

#8. Checking out other people

All right I know that the bartender is super hot and has a way better haircut than me. And maybe you're more interested in him, I get that. But try not to make it too obvious, you know, because we're kinda out on a date right now.

#9. Not knowing what the hell is going on in the world

If you can tell me all about the latest neck-contouring trend and how Kylie totally has butt implants, that's cool. But if you think ISIS is just the name of Catwoman's pet, then, it's kind of hard to take you seriously.

#10. Being gaudy AF

We get it. You like Michael Kors and Louie Vuitton. But if your clothes, purse, shoes, watch, iPhone case, necklace, bracelet, earrings, and sunglasses are all branded with with designer names, it doesn't really show you have style: it just gives off the impression that you're easily swayed by marketing and superficial ass sh*t. Regardless of whether or not it's true, that's the perception you're giving off.

#11. Being fake-proper and nice

It's easy to tell when someone's being genuinely nice and when they're just smiling and pretending to give a sh*t about you and what you're saying. Get comfortable, be honest. Pretending to care is a sure-fire way to have a guy pretend to care about you.
