modal editing is not confusing. the specific keybindings are shit by default because vi was developed on a keyboard that among other things had the cursor keys on hjkl in a time which was closer to the wwi than the present. still it would behoove you to learn the basics since techtards have a habit of jamming them into ostensibly modern software like github.

      >hjkl
I don't get why they didn't just use WASD -.-

hjkl is used so infrequently that people sometimes remap them anyway.

    >keep vim stock
    >experiment with plugins in neovim to help you learn
    >work backwards from there
It's actually very easy. I have a cheatsheet, but you quickly memorize where everything is if you just force yourself to use it (get rid of your file manager).

I don't like Microsoft's Notepad text editor. Can you tell something about it? Why the discussion is always about Vim vs Emacs? What about the ten million other text editors?

      >other text editors
there is 0 reasons to use other text editor beside vim or emac, best vscode users are using neovim

      >why the discuss is always vim vs emac
it's IQfy anon they love shit each other

any tips on copy pasting? I understand registers, I'm not extremely experienced so I may be doing something wrong but moving shit between files can be really annoying.

you can map "+y to some key. set clipboard=unnamedplus would make all copying go to system clipboard but I dislike it because vim writes to a clipboard all the time

“+y will copy to clipboard. That seems like a lot of work, but then you realize that it also works with “+Y, “+yi(, etc. Ultimately, that is faster than highlighting and copying.

After thinking about this a bit, you could map <leader>y to “+y to make it nicer. I might do that myself.

If you have both files open in the same instance, you can just copy with y and paste with p. Both y and p will use the unnamed register " by default. Alternatively, you can use a named register for more persistent pasting.

    >Forget to wrap every element I'm looking for in a try except
    >Copy and paste bad code to a temp script, have to figure out how to insert the try except blocks into the code string so I don't have to manually type 50 try excepts
