Because it literally works and it gets people to disable their ad blocker or pay for premium.

It's real but the only people who have actual problems with it are chrometards.

          >chrometards
oh, lmao, seriously? i figured anyone who actually cared about running an adblock, especially on youtube, wouldn't be running chrome. what the hell did they expect? they're using a Google browser on a Google video site trying to push Google's ad network ads onto them, which are the entire reason for the prior 2 things to even exist in the first place. no shit, idiot.

        See

OP here, I found out what was causing it. Yes it's 12 hours later, I slept in the meantime. It was the audio normalization option in BlockTube. I disabled it and everything went back to normal. YouTube are clearly working on something though, because I had no issues before.

I wonder if that audio normalization thing (on Youtube's end, not the add-on) was what was making my music halve in volume halfway through the song. I guess I'll find out soon, assuming that it's still an issue. It usually did that when I wasn't logged in though. Yes I have an account, I regularly do tests on the recommendations algorithm.

Do you think they have a metric that tells them when a person closes a video because of an ad?

      Anonymous

I think that'd be hard considering ads tend to be at the start and if I see one I close the page before the actual video starts playing

        Anonymous

So you close a video when they make you watch an ad first. If I were Google, I would be paying close attention to such a metric.

They should just make it against TOS for channels to not use Google's advertising.
"""Content Creators""" and ""'Influencers""" have gotten real smug about ads and adblock.
The platform needs to remind them that they also will own nothing and be happy.

      Anonymous

That's not a solution because as soon as they get enough people to pay to get rid of ads they'll introduce ads to the paid tier and you're back at square one, but with a subscription fee tacked on.

Googles streaming technology is broken by design, they could block all those people who use Ad blockers forever but then they would have to rewrite their entire shit, DRM it, and only make it watchable through Chrome with a propietary addon

I wouldn't be surprised if this actually happens anytime soon
