    >Yahweh Combinator: Hackerjews

It's fricking funny as frick though. They are so pro-AI and then have this strange god complex of "oh... not me, I cant get replaced oh no I am a DEVELOPER". There was this one insane comment where it almost sounded sarcastic of someone saying that they're delighted to see white collar work go into the path of automation but... he NEVER in a GORILLION YEARS thought that a LE DEVELOPER!! could get replaced, like the neurons in his brain couldn't even register it for a nanosecond that it could be possible oh no. It sounded like a joke, then you would read the child comments and he was fully defending it with complete paragraphs using a thesaurus and an LLM to perfect the spelling and shit for a fricking HN thread.

Today's post about some new Algo with Knuth's blessing linked to some semi normie website, and some dude on hn commented that the original article is way easier to parse. Of course, the material in the original article is of the read at least Serge Lang mathy CS category. Like they even underhandedly try to one up each other in every comment

Speaking from my personal experience with imageboard culture stemming back to 2003, the word "Black person" may be substituted for derogatory terms that demean people of LGBTQIA2+ status ("homosexual") or those affected by developmental disabilities ("moron"). I do agree with the overall message of your post, that is, imageboards having a similar trend of individuals within the community displaying a tendency to 'one-up' each other. Though I feel this is commonplace in the tech sphere and not limited to online fora.

I love that. I genuinely learned something from reading that: The Build engine uses quads, not raycasts, wtf? I also don't see dictionary abuse here, these are fairly basic words. The closest turbo-nerd comment chain is the one at the bottom. The Duke3D "ackshually" comment is a close 2nd, but no thesaurus abuse there either. There's gotta be better examples, you can see this kind of all the time here on IQfy so it's not special.

because 90% of the world cannot afford luxuries like video games anon. no one in the third world is paying full price for nintendo switch games. piracy is huge in south america, asia, africa, etc. its just fact. even in the first world - even in america - the majority of people who pirate do so because they are too poor not afford all the games they want.

this is just fact. maybe 0.01% of people are pirating over ethical reasons. 99.9% are pirating because they cant afford all the media they are pirating. good job outing yourself as a salty third worlder tho bro.

A large part of the "hacker" culture has turned very obnoxious in last 20 years or so. The issue is multifaceted, but a major part of blame can be put upon the image propagated on media, fiction, social and otherwise. There has been a conscious effort to redirect tech enthusiasts from that renegade cyberpunk hacker archetype increasingly prevalent from late 70's to 90's back to an updated version of that pocket protector corporate IBM type manifesting as this gayMAN crowd and often nonsensical startups -stereotype as a controlled "alternative" to that (and then the glowie homosexual industry recruiting stuff, but that has been going on the whole time). It's not like that "golden" era wasn't manufactured as well, but at least there seemingly was some substance in the hacker ethic there beyond just more power, money and profit for the "big guys" and buying into all they can flush down your throat.

The sad part is that many of those who were part of that culture in that era have turned to corporate cucks themselves. There is of course by numbers much more free software and hardware development etc. in the "autistic" (as in focused in just their "thing") part of the culture now, but the part that actually gives a frick about real world stuff is very much polarized into stereotypical "white hats" with externally given group mentality morals and "black hats" with only greed for wealth and power as their driver, the common sense curious type with actual self developed ethics and morals as a role model seems to have been mostly lost in time.

It's mainly because hackerman hacking is genuinely extremely difficult nowadays. Anyone with that much knowledge and skill is employed and making bank. Why do it for free and/or illegally? Scams and ransomware aren't worthwhile unless you live in a backwards country that pays dogshit, and pestering corporations with righteous rebel code is impossible (you'll be caught and prosecuted like the filthy poor you are, nobody wants to take that risk)

Sam Altman and his rhetoric is quite problematic for the AI ecosystem.

AI represents a crossroad in the timeline of humanity. Its a tool that can fundamentally change everything for better or worse. Its everyone's responsibility to advocate for ethical and fair AI implementations. Racism and bias in AI _is_ representative of reality, but it shouldn't be. People suck.

Sam Altman is a particularly powerful mover in the AI space as the CEO of OpenAI. He especially needs to be held accountable, preferably by a joint task force created by the UN and AI geniuses like Eliezer Yudkowsky. It shouldn't be too late to act, but its still very concerning that it has taken this long to really think about the implications of what we're doing.

I recommend writing to your representatives and other community leaders about the risks of AI to humanity at large. You are not forgotten. Together we can stop the perpetuation of hatred.

Wrong. I'm too combatively autistic to beg and scrape for anything.

It's a curated echo chamber that's about as organic as the New York Times.

Who cares? Don't hang out with them if you think they're homosexuals.

Hacker news is based, they are the last sane tech website online and they are not what you're describing. I have an appreciation for a community full of competent "normies" as opposed to twacked out neets.

        shitting street: designated

Hacker News is the PLEASE GIVE ME A JOB PLEASE OH MY GOD I'LL SUCK YOUR DICK equivalent of a sniveling white knight betamax sucking up to a girl in the hope of pity sex.
Once you understand that it all makes sense.
Of course IQfy is just sour grapes but that whataboutism doesn't change what orange reddit is even though it's true.

Dude, I just love the hustle and bustle of San Francisco! I eat out at restaurants ever single meal, and therefore never use my microwave at home. I'm actually thinking about getting rid of it. That means you shouldn't be able to have one either.

To be fair, yeah, microwave ovens are super convenient, but they're quite shitty and food made in them fricking sucks.
I'm not a bugman but I try to reheat my stuff on the stove or in the oven instead if I have time.

    frontends like invidious are unethical
i don't know about the ethical part, but for me privacy frontends make sites free of bloat and actually usable.
