This is surprising because most people don't understand him. He wants to make the Church friendly and inviting without changing any core doctrines. He's made private comments in the past that sound like something a tradcath would say, he just doesn't say such things publicly. Publicly he usually tries to put a friendly face on anything he says.

      He apologized

So like I was saying, we need to violently purge homosexuals from every area of society, including but not limited to churches.

I agree. We need to violently purge Catholics from every area of society, including but not limited to churches.

“Cardinal Marcello Semeraro..has reportedly turned his diocese of Albano into “the Italian capital of the Catholic-gαγ movement,” annually hosting the Forum of Italian LGBT Christians, which seeks to make the hοmοsexual lifestyle fully accepted inside the Church.”
“Portuguese Cardinal José Tolentino de Mendonça, who adopted a “Who am I to judge?” approach in his pastoral work with hοmοsexυαls in Lisbon, has been a public advocate for former sister Maria Teresa Forcades i Vila, notorious for her promotion of “queer theology.”
“The pope’s third nominee was Archbishop Bruno Forte…author of sections on hοmοsexυαlity in the controversial interim document of the first Synod on the Family in 2014 that attempted to open the door to acceptance of homosexual relationships in the Church.”

The second vatican council took place from 1962-65, decades before the gay rights movement made any headway (first place to recognize same-sex marriage was in 2004, for instance)
Are you sure you're not conflating unrelated or loosely related issues, OP?

Pope Francis has not indicated any plans to repeal the reforms of the Second Vatican Council, which took place from 1962 to 1965. These reforms were significant in shaping the modern Catholic Church and it's unlikely that any Pope would reverse them. However, Pope Francis has emphasized the importance of interpreting the Council in its historical context and implementing its teachings in a spirit of continuity with Tradition.
