Help settle a 'debate'...

Hey /gtards, just popping in from /fit, hope you're all enjoying your Sunday.
I am here to try to settle an argument between myself and my compadre Bradley.
Brad is a few years older than me, and a bit 'nerdier' (his words, not mine), and he claims that a 15 year old Thinkpad will run faster with the OS of the era (Vista), than with a more up to date windows install, or even a Linux distro.
Furthermore, he only uses legacy applications of the same era, in a bid to stop "compatibility issues" which he says are the number one cause of memory fragmentation.
He posts here (/G) religiously, frequents a few reddit subs, even belongs to a few of the 'more underground' programming forums.
Because of this he believes he is more knowledgeable than me (a/fit regular) about anything technology related.
He is telling me I should revert back to Win 10 immediately, or my laptop could melt, possibly even explode if the memory fragmentation gets too severe.
I'm certain he is wrong, I have windows 11 on my 5 year old laptop and it is faster than my previous windows 10 install.

Should I reinstall Windows 10, should I risk 11, or is Brad simply full of shit?

real brad would be arguing his case

      Brad's moronic.

      I think so

Holy shit is this an AI post?
Just in case it's not; Brad is full of shit.

Totally not AI, if someone can explain how, and why Brad is wrong, I'll relay it all to him when I see him tomorrow.

Hes right about the windows part, wrong about the Linux part. If you install 10 or 11 on it it will be slower than vista, but linux will be faster

      I don't believe you.

just install arch it's pretty much moron friendly now

But my laptop runs windows 11 perfectly well?

      >is Brad simply full of shit?
seeing as you're from IQfy, surely you've peered in him already
      (yes)

I am just an average guy from /fit, the one guy I know who confess to using /G is the idiot in the OP... Him + You = /fit > /G

Whey version of windows has to support thebpreovious versions applications as well as introduce new features and APIs. Each version of windows afer any version will be slower on the same hardware. Even if you dont believe it its just logical

windows 11 is full of bloatware and adware a fresh install of windows 11 is like what 40-50gbs?
its always gonna be slower than linux

brad seems to be a baby duck moron, obviously a 15 yo laptop running vista will not be faster than a modern laptop running a modern os

if u want to keep using windows 11 i recommend LTSC since it has less bloat and no adware if not just switch to arch or smth

It's not older software that is better for older hardware, but sometimes newer software is more demanding and bloated. That doesn't mean you should only run older software, hat's moronic.

Personally, I have an old Chinkpad, and I've got Linux Mint on it, which is lightweight and good for the hardware, although I'm not a fan of Cinnamon DE.
