only instance where a tablet would fit could be if you're taken to the psych ward and you need a passtime, usually they let you keep just that and a phone, it might be okay for taking notes during a college class with the cool $150 pen

I keep seeing people say ipads are useless but you can literally watch youtube, browse IQfy, roll gacha, watch pornography and any media really in a nice sleek form factor. The panel use in your ipad is way better than your laptop and phones have tiny ass screens even those maxxed out ones

I sit and use my computer for upwards of 14 hours every single day. I don't want to have to hold a tablet the entire time, and I prefer to use a disposable mouse rather than getting the screen filthy with grease and Dorito stains. Tablets are a nice little novelty, but for the discerning NEET, they will never replace a real computer.

I had this epiphany recently when I realized I spend way too much laying in bed fricking around on my iPad. I'm slowly shifting myself over to only using the internet when I'm sitting at my desktop. It'll take time to ween myself off of the mobile stuff but I think it'll be for the better. I'm not ready to just sell it all yet

It depends on their use case, there's a reason as to why they didn't replace laptops, but also stick around and haven't died, if you're someone who needs desktop applications and features, then it really isn't for you, but if your work and daily life doesn't require that and/or you want something to draw on, read books or comics/manga, or just consume media in general, they're just excellent.

Again, it depends on you and how you're going to use it, a tablet could either be genuinely useless, or the best device for you. I'm torn on them, but I think I'll get one this year just to see if I'm into it.

Perfectly valid use case scenario, I got one for drawing recently and i'm having a blast. Used to have a display-less PC tablet accessory, it worked fine but being restricted to draw on PC is more of a big deal than I thought. Got an apple thingy with their pencil, now i'm drawing pretty much daily, just grab the thing and doodle to your heart's content. Also works great for photography, sorting out photos and doing some basic touchups on a relatively large screen in bed during the trip sure is comfy

I might pull the plug on a used Galaxy Tab A7, it sells for quite cheap used, is the 3GB of RAM to do things like consuming and drawing enough? 3GB of RAM in current year seems way too low.

      Anonymous

Drawhomosexualry consumes considerable amounts of RAM because you'll most likely and up setting up 50+ layers, most likely also drawing in high resolution. Not to mention that in 2024, 3gb of ram might not even be enough for a proper browser experience. Of course, nothing stops you from simply drawing in lower resolution/with careful use of layers, but eh.

I didn't have personal experience with hardware this low in current year, but especially for drawing, you should probably research it carefully before purchase.

Ebay shows them for 150 bucks here, doesn't seem much but given there are great options for drawing at 450 (from Apple, so a decent Samsung tablet should be cheaper) it just seems wasteful. Unless you're destitute or are absolutely unwilling to spend more.

You could try use it as remote desktop machine, but i am not sure if onboard wifi would be enough or you would need to plug suffiently fast wifi dongle.

Any device with single-digit RAM is essentially e-waste now. Anyone who disagrees is just poor and coping.

It's a piece of shit seriously.
I've had one for 2 years now and it's only good for reading manga.
Using a browser is laggy as hell, swapping between apps is laggy as hell, can't multitask because your shit goes out of RAM or whatever, Youtube only goes up to 720p but it for some reason always defaults back to 480p, h265 decoding is basically inexistent.
I wouldn't trust it for drawing either because of how unreliable the touch feels from just using it normally.
I'm currently waiting on a S9 FE that I ordered yesterday.

I appreciate the warnings, anons! I'll try to save up for a S7FE, S7, S8 or S9FE then, since they do look a lot better and have more features, the A7 looked fine because I managed to find it for quite cheap, but if it's completely unusable then it'd be just me throwing money away. Are the newer A series ones decent enough though? I mean, the A9 Plus looks alright, though still a bit weaker.

I got a mini 2nd gen from my mom when she upgraded and I tried it out as a Plex machine.
As a Plex machine, it's fricking great, I don't need to carry around my laptop and the battery life lasts longer. When I'm cooking, I can set it up and watch tv shows or movies while I'm cooking.
I upgraded to a 6th gen on a sale (still felt like too much money) but I cycle both of them now. They're still just Plex machines, but when I'm doing chores like cooking or washing or folding clothes, it's perfect.
They're useless otherwise, you're absolutely right and because apple are fricking cheap c**ts who wouldn't know good hardware if it came up to them and slapped them in the face with its wiener, this fricking thing has a 60hz LCD straight out of 2010.
I saw they just updated the pro one with an OLED but it's absurdly expensive for something that I just want for Plex.
Also the mini one is better for fitting in smaller places in my kitchen or laundry.
Buying it did feel like shoving a 10" dildo into my ass unlubed. I don't know how people can buy apple products so often without turning gay.

I really want to trade in my 9th gen for a 256gb mini. I have no tv, I only have my phone and my ipad and no real computer and I don’t want a shitty windows laptop, but the mini is just so nice to hold. I have so little living space so handling a mini is just easier. It’s just so fricking expensive goddamit Tim why didn’t it get a fricking price drop. Also I hate there’s no competition for the mini, frick you samsung and lenovo for making absolute jokes of mini tablets

That's what made me change my mind about getting one. I mean, the 9th gen is often only around $250 new, and it's still got many years of support left, but I just keep thinking that it's gonna be yet another thing to charge, to update, to maintain, to log into, and it doesn't really do anything special. I know it's just going to be a fun toy for a few days, and then it'll be relegated into some corner of my room collecting dust.

iplay 50 Pro (10") NFE or mini pro NFE (8")
G99 8GB+256GB for <170 USD on Amazon is currently the best deal for a cheap tablet, has microSD expansion (I put a 256gb microsd in mine) and 4G LTE sim support

Performs better than my phone which is SD732G 6G+128G, too bad the camera on the tablet sucks, but realistically the only reason to have a camera on a tablet is to scan QR code and maybe video chat for elders. If you're using a tablet as your main camera, it's bad, and you should feel bad.
