Mostly art books, some some small novelettes too. Once in a while she really wants to read something bigger I am reading, like Orhan Pamuk's "A strangeness in my mind".Easy and accessible shit like that.
Oh, she got me to read some french erotica as well, was funny.

I'm Spanish and she is Italian so we usually read shit about med painters and sculptors. Currently we are enjoying the book about the full oeuvre by Caravaggio from taschen. They even were able to get the histories of each painting and who owned what when. We'll probably go for Zurbaran next but I am eyeing this one. Perhaps Sorolla.

my ex girlfriend was italian too, and we read many artbooks by taschen (the caravaggio one too) and a lot of french erotica.
Enjoy it while it last my friend
          also, beware of italian girls
          Also, sorolla is based

            A Dutch book??

Yea, we live in the Netherlands rn. Met her at a uni thing. I can speak it and write it well enough, so does she. This particular book seemed appealing enough, zooms in on a certain time and place instead of on the artists themselves.

        Dear Roastie or White Knight,
I am sat in a third year history class. There are a lot of women because they’re doing it for their teaching certs. None of them are interested in antiquity or the middle ages. I’m not even sure most of them are interested in history beyond the 1800s and 1900s. And then either the political feminist shit or the Jane Austen inspired fantasy about the romantic life.

Yukio Mishima was the most recent author that we shared an interest in. Both of us read Death in Midsummer and talked about it quite a bit recently. We've both read other Mishima works independently of another prior to that too.
Since then, we've mostly been talking about music and are going to read England's Secret Reverse together soon on foot of listening to a lot of Current 93, Coil and associated industrial bands as well as some books on film that we recently bought to watch some more kino together.
Both of us are engineers so we also talk about and exchange books on topics related to our respective disciplines, particularly aeronautical engineering, electronics, fluid dynamics, metamaterials, signal processing and submarines which we read together in the evenings as they're typically quite large coffee table books.

nothing more pathetic than losers trying to glorify their lack of personality and experiences as some special secret club, as if there were a distinct group with clear lines anyway. i feel it's the same antisocial people who identify with nerd culture and children's media, so militant in their interest yet somehow so shallow and anti-art. it's because their character is deficient, so it doesn't matter what they assume theirs. it doesn't give you depth on its own, and there are many more utterly fringe people who have good social lives, i.e. readily get gfs, than not. and i say this as a virgin shut-in neet of many years who struggles to stay tethered to reality day by day.

I don’t get it either. Almost every time I’m in a social gathering for extended periods of time I get this feeling. I can have fun but after a certain amount of time it just becomes too much work, to act a certain way, say the right things to not offend anyone, then humans inevitably start clashing, then people just enforce their conclusions about you. It’s all so tiresome. Not to mention the bonds you make that will inevitably be shat on. It can all feel so performative.

The opposite is true for me. Because life is so weird and shameful, all that is left to do is power through. The absurdness is destructive and that is freedom.

I've had brief periods to consider my actions, but I found it unproductive. Maybe if I were somehow denied women I could stop to truly "consider it", but I'm not convinced there's so much dignity in that. Or much refuge in prolonged denial and reflection. I have experienced transcendent activity in extended fasting and prayer. But I remain faithful to the ritual of the flesh. I'm not going to deny myself over some illusory self-imposed guilt and shame. If the absurdity of life induces those feelings for you, then maybe you just weren't cut out for it.

I read classic works such as the bible, Ovid or Dostoisraeliteski and she reads gay new age stuff about a girl in new york trying to find herself or something and then we make fun of each other. I laugh because she's acting like a basic b***h and she laughs because I'm pretentious and just reading it to feel superior to others.

I dated a girl in undergrad who only read the classics and had a big checklist of books to get through. She confessed that she didn’t enjoy reading, but didn’t want to appear dumb to others and “felt like it was something she had to do.” When we broke up she was finishing Anna Karenina after having finished War and Peace just before. She was probably more well-read in the classics than I was as a literature student. She probably read 4 books a year but they were usually door-stoppers. We didn’t read together but she sometimes read me passages from Tolstoy that she thought I’d enjoy. She had an aversions to poetry and drama. Everything she did was methodical and reasoned, she was a half-korean robot.

My current gf likes reading together before bed. She likes when I read to her when she falls asleep. She isn’t picky and will read anything I give her, she doesn’t like philosophy, despite me trying to ease her into it. I was reading Atomised by Houellebecq when we first started dating and now she likes Houellebecq, her favorite is The Maps and the Territory. I read her some poems from Songs of Innocence lately and now she’s on a poetry kick. The last book we finished together was “100 years of solitude.” Sometimes she likes to do some amateur lit analysis but after every sentence she says, “does that sound right, anon? Or am i missing the point?” Usually I forget she is younger until she says that. It’s my pet peeve

I'm coming to grips with the likelihood that I will die an unloved virgin. Part of me is enraged by this, but the other part of me sees it as the logical conclusion of my life. I think I have a better chance at winning the lottery than getting a gf.

      Anonymous

Well, you could get a gf after you win the lottery so you still have a chance.
Either way, I think the lack of friends is far worse than not having a gf. Read the Epicureans.

      Anonymous

Ignore the guy telling you to read anything. Books will absolutely not help you. Getting a gf isn't even a real goal. You have to improve your worth foremost, and when you actually feel good enough about yourself to talk to people in a way that isn't just the required social pleasantries, then you can "look."
But you shouldn't look. Looking is worthless. I never found a woman while actively looking. It only ever comes when you aren't looking, when you are in a good enough spot that you can just "be" in the proximity of a female. My case is a bit weird since I met her online, but I wasn't looking for her to be my gf when we started talking. We just hit it off. I am really wary of posting anything related to this topic because I know the school schizo who lurks /adv/ also posts here. He will just tell you to go to school and that women don't exist anywhere in the wild but only at school.
I was like you just earlier this year. I'm almost 30. I'm still a virgin but that's because we're waiting a little before we do anything. Sex isn't half as important to me as just finding someone who you can tolerate (rare for me) and who will tolerate you back. That gets you halfway there. You also can't put her on a pedestal. Without being overt, you have to make her recognize that you're superior to her. If you're average looking, lift weights. If you are socially moronic (like me) seek other socially moronic people to practice with. Just go to omegle and talk to randos, I did that for years. Don't need to maintain eye contact if you just stare at their forehead. You can make it anon.

You shouldn’t be so harsh on yourself. Im sure you will be able to find someone who loves you out there. Sometimes those things just take some time and patience. It’s also important to keep in mind that as amazing as romantic companionship can be it isn’t the most important thing in the world. There are many other ways your social needs can be fulfilled. Keep your head up!

I’m not a man and don’t have a girlfriend lol— but I absolutely adore reading. Recently me and this male friend have been getting close based on mutual interests. One of those being literature. It’s one of our main common interests and we chat about it very often. We’ve had a few dates to bookstores were we spend hours going through all the different sections and chat about our opinions on those genres. We both love classic literature, history, philosophy, and theology books. We’ve had a few geeky romantic moments relating to reading like the times I’ve laid on his chest while we read from the same book. Reading can be very romantic!

Nothing. I've found that women who read go through a linear process of believing themselves correct in everything and knowing everything after having studied nothing; regurgitating really commonplace received ideas as if those things are original and profound, and this is very tedious and monotonous. I prefer women who don't have any interest in 'intellectual' things and I prefer men not to be very literate either, since it impedes their ability to take orders.

It would be different if literacy came with humility but it doesn't seem to be the case... rather: at the most basic rubbing of the eyes when emerging from the cave they believe they know everything. I don't have time or resources to train children from birth not to be this way but one day I will do this as the formula to avoid this outcome is simple enough.

Since then, I gave her a copy of Dune and just finished The Bell Jar as she recommended it.

I have a theory that I'll ask her about later, that Blood Meridian and The Bell Jar are opposites of sorts, as I enjoyed Blood Meridian but struggled with The Bell Jar as it was an uncomfortable read and made me physically ill even though it was imo a well written book. I think it's the opposite for her.

To be happy you must live in agreement with your nature. The whole and sole perk of being a male is that nobody will care about you. Whereas the sole perk of being a vegana is that all the men will be desperate to talk to you and give you free stuff spontaneously. The male nature is to be forever alone. On the female side, it is not all rosy, women hate to have a flock of ugly orbiters, and they hate it even more when there is physical contact with those. In other words women hate that too much men care about them. So everybody is unhappy, especially the men. Thanks to a twist, women are actually happy because, doing it for free, the chad orbiters will beat up the ugly orbiters for the sake of the women.
So to be happy as a male you must rejoyce in being a loser. This is the only truth in the universe.

Most people are boring and stupid regardless of their gender or level of education
I was surprised at how shallow the people i did my postgrad studies with were. i was clearly the smartest and best read there and I'm not particularly smart at all. it's all just a confidence and extroversion and being good at the bureaucracy game. the university has little to do with actual intellectual rigor IMO, it's just high school or office job with the unearned garnishings of elitism

I find that a minority of women in university maintain the minimal upkeep to be an "art hoe" or "dark academia" moron for the first couple years at least, but as with anything else, when a woman gets a boyfriend it's like Thomas Aquinas after his mystical vision, everything they did before that "seems like so much straw" to them

      >The happiness of man is: I will. The happiness of woman is: He will. 'Behold! now hath the world become perfect!'—thus thinketh every woman when she obeyeth with all her love. Obey, must the woman, and find a depth for her surface. Surface is woman's soul—a mobile, stormy film on shallow water.
      Nietzsche

      >[Women] are incapable of taking a purely objective interest in anything, and the reason for it is, I fancy, as follows. A man strives to get direct mastery over things either by understanding them or by subduing them. But a woman is always and everywhere driven to indirect mastery, namely, through a man; all her direct mastery being limited to him alone. Therefore it lies in woman’s nature to look upon everything only as a means for winning man, and her interest in anything else is always a simulated one, a mere roundabout way to gain her ends, consisting of coquetry and pretence.
      >Every one who can see through a sham must have found this to be the case. One need only watch the way they behave at a concert, the opera, or the play; the childish simplicity, for instance, with which they keep on chattering during the finest passages in the greatest masterpieces.
      Schopenhauer

Remember university used to be a white and israeli upper class thing too, with a more homogeneous proto-"dark academia" culture of fat little Americans pretending to be imaginary European sophisticates and wearing expensive sweaters and so on. So they were more motivated to keep up appearances, even if it was only to snag a rich husband. Now Harvard and Columbia are mischling summer camps and general chitchat zones where the new zoomer managerial class learns to download "the readings" on their smartphones.
