Can we talk more about how the hell was someone like Yeltsin able to get power? Surely the KGB must have known that he was a fool and a traitor?

I think it highlights an issue with communist regimes in general, in order to maintain them, everyone needs to be on the same page ideologically, everyone needs to be educated in class consciousness.etc
Contrasted with capitalist regimes, and you do not need everyone to be a capitalist for it it "work" because people just want to make money

Are you under the impression that the KGB wanted to preserve socialism? That wasn't the case at all.

Sure, but Yeltsin's clique was fairly small and most ex-KGB ended up poor.

the USSR was ideologically dead by then. the captain of the storozhevoy knew it

      the first part is correct
the second part isn't really. "everyone wants to make money" is just anarcho-capitalism, which is basically just a power vacuum. said vacuum is usually filled by the worst kinds of organizations that you can imagine.
what we call "capitalism" also requires indoctrination to maintain.

why couldn't the USSR stock their shelves with 100 boxes of ice cream?

        They had canned seaweed instead.

It's self-evident. The USSR didn't have the technology to build ice cream freezers, and it was difficult to transport the ice cream across the vast Russian territory.

          >The USSR didn't have the technology to build ice cream freezers
          lmao
          >it was difficult to transport the ice cream across the vast Russian territory
some types of ice cream were indeed only available in Moscow and/or SPB. I imagine that other types were produced at regional hubs (recipes were standardized via GOST and probably not too hard to make, like how hard can it be to make ice cream, come on) and distributed to nearby areas. if you lived in a very remote area then maybe you'd be out of luck idk

    >stalin dies
    >kill Beria because he's Le evil and that would be bad for the soviet people
    >Malenkov is also ousted after 2 years

Malenkov was normal and a genuine good guy thats why he was ousted, they claim they had to end stalinism but khrushchev and co were just Stalins themselves.

    >inb4 he was just stalins lapdog
kek all of them submitted to survive.

No, they aren't. The fact that Russians can't succeed in a market economy isn't proof that the USSR was great. Russians are, by and large, incompetent and corrupt. Systems that work elsewhere will tend to fail in such an environment.

the simple fact aside from all posturing, ideology, and politics:
the US had an economy and wealth 3-4 times of what the USSR had

Well I mean for one it would at least seem to throw question on the idea Socialism is a more advanced economic model
The idea of in the 19th century was it would more rationally organize the economy, do away with famine ect

    Slack in a supply chain
It’s easy enough to produce with redundensies but that’s profitable under a market system and superficially “inefficient” in a command economy
