how do i stop being tempted by paganism?

no, not the fabricated tradition of neopaganism, i mean i actually have an impulse to syncretise random religious beliefs and do strange nonsense rituals, when i read about manichaeism or bektashism, i really want to get my hands in there for some reason, maybe just aesthetically? i dunno

Bektashi here, there's no point to converting to this religion unless you're and alcoholic or aspiring to get political/military authority in albania.
    Synchretic religions are copes

i know, the temptation of paganism is the lack of boundaries i think, its not conversion im tempted by, its the lack thereof

Not really, I'm reading a lot more about the old pantheon and it's like a giant self improvement general thread but without schizos

The entire premise of paganism is that it cannot be characterized or generalized, some self-improve, some eat raccoons, some get married, some cut their wiener off

Yeah that was the point of the pantheon. You can have all the gods you want as long as the emperor is revered along with them in your temples. Only the israelites chimped out about this. If you're talking about guidance for life then just pick up on the stoics

Eh, it's only for a few years before the praetorians kill him, and statistically there were way more based strongman emperors. It was a military state after all.

No one gives a frick about a dead emperor, you only have to be loyal to the living one

    >i mean i actually have an impulse to syncretise random religious beliefs and do strange nonsense rituals
    okay so basically you're cathodox
there's a patron saint and a special little prayer/ritual for every specific desire of the human heart
If you became a priest THEN you could start publicly praising other religions
    >"yeah... I think there's a lot of truth to Buddhism..."
and everyone would take it because you have the hat and funny dress

Well, feel free to go back to worshiping Zeus or Jupiter and start sacrificing animals and praying to rocks again, no one is stopping you. Let me know how it works out for you. If you want to return to a polytheistic system of animal sacrifices, and divination through animal entrails, and believing in Zeus the rapist god, then I don't know what to tell you. Many of the greatest Greeks OPPOSED the Greek gods and the Greek system that enslaved the masses with vain superstitions, exactly like modern-day Christianity, which is far more polytheistic than it is monotheistic.

Have you ever slaughtered an animal and butchered it in many pieces? You would really make your life decisions based on what some intoxicated girl mumbles to some priest and if a goat's liver has a blemish? These are the European traditions you want to return to?

If you want to reject Christ, and not live according to His Will and Testament, then I believe you will be judged according to your works. Your good deeds will not wash away your bad deeds, and we all have to pay God in the end.

If you want to go back to a pre-Christian era, with animal sacrificing, and believing in the crazy polytheistic life of the gods, then that is your choice. If you think that it is better to honor your ancient ancestors by keeping their old traditions, and that their system of worship is better than the one the Bible presents then I won't hate you, or think less of you. I might not understand why you would want that, but it really won't matter to me.

I would point out that the Norse myths were only recorded because of Christians. The bulk of Norse mythology was preserved thanks to Christian scholars. If these people want to return to a pre-Christian era, then stop using English, stop using our alphabet. Go back to your ancient rune system, and go back to believing that the earth was made from the body parts of a giant, and that the clouds are his brains.

its literally just esoteric Christianity, western esotericism in general really, be it perennialism, neoplatonism, rosicrusian thought, not really a problem.

    >how do i stop being tempted by paganism?
by doing diligent research. once you have the truth, you'll be able to actually make an informed decision rather than be 'tempted' by various beliefs.

At the very least make sure not to interact with anything of that matter. Try to think of the flaws of that stuff and the possible consequence.

I will take this to heart, my soul tells me they are evil anyway
