just don't use shit and carry on

can't. all these homosexuals releasing their idiot spare time projects are almost all exclusively dockerized. You could painstakingly figure out how everything should go and install it manually, but then it turns out this motherfricker built his shit against python > 3.13(beta-dev-doesn't work right-gay-version) when your LTS distro is on 3.10 so of course it wont work. Now you could compile python from source, have it live side by side, figure out how to use that specific version with just that one project because installing it system wide will break your install. Or you could just use docker because this homosexual made it nearly impossible to do it any other way.

        >their idiot spare time projects
just don't use shit and carry on. I agree that frickers, whose first thought is docker when it comes to releasing something, should be executed.

Docker is being shilled so hard. Is it backdoored?

      Anonymous

No, it's just become a big commercialized mess. podman is an acceptable replacement for many needs.

        Anonymous

It’s a slippery slope. First they get you to accept podman, then you’ll be running “cloud containers” and your router in a proxmox vm.

Proxmox is just a frontend manager for lxc and kvm.

The GNU project succeeded in the mission of providing a replacement set of userland tooling to replace commercial Unix. But now commercial Unix is dead. The world has moved on. People and companies need to do things that are outside of the original scope and concept of what Unix was and did, on hardware that the builders of Unix could never dream of. The Linux kernel and ecosystem can provide that. The "fix" you're looking for is essentially to deny the future and hold on to the past, never changing, never learning, never adapting. That's a loser mindset. Don't get stuck in the past. Build the future yourself.

  5. 2 weeks ago

    >Fix
    What is there to fix
    >docker
A piece of software that you can ignore if you want. It is good for companies that want to build once and deploy anywhere. Its kinds of meh and should probably be tied into the init system somehow.
    >Flatpak
Stupid garbage that should be destroyed. Guix and nix already solved the problem it was trying to address and containerizing everything is stupid.
    >Proxmox
A useful tool for running multiple VMs on a server with an extremely low virtualization cost. Not really an issue and doesn't really have anything to do with Linux.
    >Systemd
Needs to be rebuilt as a modular system that has an API that library designers can implement allowing the new init system to interopt with them without needing to reimplement what they do. Also someone else needs to solve the forking problem. It would be kind of cool it is was implemented like guile. I know shepherd exist, but the documentation is trash.
    >Ubuntu
An OK intro into Linux. Its not that bad besides having snaps which are garbage like flatpak.
    >raspberrian
Nothing wrong just a distro made for raspberry pi.

        >"This will keep me from getting hacked. I can't trust the developers so letting them set the permissions on their flatpaks is a great idea. That sure is better than having a distro maintainer actually double check what they are doing."
No I am not, but I suspect that you are.

Make a proper display server that isn't Wayland and is backwards compatible with X applications without some convoluted translation layer like Xwayland, then delete Wayland
Improve one of non-Systemd, non-shell inits, then delete systemd
    Delete Flatpak and Snap
    Delete Gnome

If killing backwards compatibility is what gets us a usable display server I'm willing to make that sacrifice.

make a desktop environment that works exactly like explorer.exe, and make a standard universal library that comes with the kernel, also that will fix the dependency hell and .exe like installers will be viable without bloating the entire system with garbage
