    Wow. Shocking

IP law is a meme. It mostly benefits the legal profession and the large corporations that can afford the drawn out procedures necessary to actually enforce it. The commoner is simply expropriated of any right to their work if it is desired.

It is funny because corporations can harvest all kind of copy righted content to train their LLM without repercussions.

Do you enjoy aimbots and smurf accounts OP?

That's simple the free market. It's a cat and mouse game of people finding clever exploits and making cheats, and devs patching them, or going back and fixing their shitty patchworked product.

It never ceases to amaze me that people don't understand a basic rule when it comes to the law. Let me be very fricking clear so all you morons understand:

IF YOU DEVELOP SOMETHING LEGALLY GREY, DON'T CHARGE A FRICKING DIME!!!

That's it, if it were fricking free, they would be totally legally safe. Now the company can pinpoint a dollar amount in court records. If it were free, they couldn't pinpoint malfunction of form.
Free emulator, cheat engine = legally safe-ish
paid emulator, cheat engine = lawsuit city

its only "legally grey" in the sense that under common law a jury can find you guilty of literally anything no matter how moronic. And obviously there would be little point in doing it if you weren't getting paid, you'd need to find a real job at that point.

        Anonymous

Pretty much this. There's nothing "legally grey" about the software. A lot of these tech lawsuits go through because 90% of the people involved are too tech illiterate to actually understand what's going on. I don't get to take financial institutions to court because they use HFT software that gives "unfair competition". When's Razer getting sued for selling macro software?

    I think this is fine.

If this were just some freely-available program to inject scripts into Call of Duty that would be one thing, but offering "Call of Duty Aimbot" for sale is not really defensible, Activision can claim real damages and point to very obvious bad intent.

I am not appealing to the law here to say the ruling is just because it is in accordance with currently-existing law. I think it is a just ruling, plain and simple. They were selling mischievous programs of zero worth solely to provide undeserved advantages to unscrupulous players—creating no new value but instead parasitically selling an illegitimate reallocation of "winning"/etc. in a game they did not create. It is contrary to spirit of competition, it is damaging to the game and its players, it creates a need for more and more invasive and expensive anticheat which is a needless waste of human effort and computer processing power. This kind of mischief to the public is and ought to be illegal.

some people live under a different life philosophy, even subconsciously. They were born with a wrong instinct that makes them think that winning is winning, even if it's through lying and cheating and they think exploiting every advantage is just part of being smarter and better.

Need details of the case. IIRC, Nintendo or others tried to sue Game Shark or Genie (whatever it was), and that was a whole retail hardware offering at-cost. It was found legal. Not sure why this differs or precedent doesn't apply.

Probably because it destroys the integrity of multiplayer games and effectively makes them unplayable for everyone else. GameShark gamegeinie action replay etc didn't involve sending manipulated data to multiplayer servers

I think we have been somewhat educated into thinking that laws and ruling are final. They are not.
Life is about fighting. Today corporate gaylords have won this battle, tomorrow freedom will win another battle. The war will go on until the end of time.
