How is the story of Ananias and Sapphira not the most scandalous thing in the Bible?

How is the story of Ananias and Sapphira not the most scandalous thing in the Bible?

>Couple sells house to give proceeds to the church
>only gives half the money but tells Peter they gave all of it
>Peter knows better and strikes them dead

What are the apologetics for this?

Best the church fathers could do is "yeah they died but didn't go to hell"

    >Now a man named Ananias, together with his wife Sapphira, also sold a piece of property. 2 With his wife’s full knowledge he kept back part of the money for himself, but brought the rest and put it at the apostles’ feet. Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land? Didn’t it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn’t the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied just to human beings but to God.”
The whole point is that he just sold a piece of it and kept part of it for themselves. They basically tried to make themselves look good, when even if they didn't want to give all the money, they shouldn't have sold it. They had complete control over it.
Also, it wasn't St Peter who did it, but the God the Holy Spirit or just the Trinity.

So how come lying to the Church about money can incur the death penalty from God but the millions of Muslims who waged war against the Church for millennia got off Scott free?

When Peter has a money problem the holy Spirit comes in to do the dirty work but when Muslims are outside Tours Christians have to take up arms and deal with it themselves?

Do not talk of the holy spirit like that or it may come to do the wetwork on you

It wasn’t the lying, silly. It was trying to place themselves in a more virtuous light than they deserved. This has all the hallmarks of this power couple trying to deceive others and use their hidden wealth to manipulate those around them. Those who actually did sell everything they had were supposed to begin full time evangelizing and then supported by the others in the community who did not sell off their property and were still working. This was just those two trying to scam an early retirement plan.

        God zapped them, not Peter.

And that's a good reason why they should die?

A lot of similar events in the OT, practical doctrine moment so everyone learns about spiritual death through physical death. God can do it as He is the creator of souls, he can send them to the afterlife when He deems best.

Okay but the Catholic Church still exists and people don't die for lying to the Pope so why the apparent change?

Parable of the minas. Theft from the kingdom of God is an execution sentence. Lying just makes it worse. They were profiteering from ministry. Very evil!

How can mortals steal from the kingdom of an infinite being?

Clearly that parable isn't talking about actual money. Why would God need money?

The thing being stolen is Justice. And that does belong to God.

Okay but why do people get away with "stealing justice" today but Ananias and Sapphira didn't?

Alright so my next question is that if people who opposed the apostles were killed supernaturally then why did the apostles end up being martyred anyway?

Why kill Ananias and Sapphira and why send and angel to strike down Herod but not stop the people who beheaded Paul and crucified Peter and Andrew?

The unjust killing of innocents performed publicly is a better method of spreading the message of Christ to the masses throughout the Roman empire than catering to a few israeli communities
Tacitus admitted this when discussing Nero's persecution

They tried to have it both ways, the result of that is death. Just like with placing YHWH in a pantheon of idols or being lukewarm.

“Thou shalt have no other god before me” pretty clearly says a pantheon of demigods is acceptable.

This is the Biblical equivalent of some environmentalist billionaire telling the proletariat they have to stop eating meat and driving cars while they cruise around on their Lear Jets snorting ground Rhinoceros penis, except unfortunately in real life, God hasn't struck Al Gore or Klaus Schwab dead, which makes the Bible much better
