5 essential tips for landing and keeping a (rich) older man Their mindsets are different from young guys in many important ways. Here's how to win over your own well-to-do grey fox.

When I first met mine, I was extremely intimidated. He was a powerful man with a very strong character, but he also had a great personality. I’m not very outgoing, so I often come across as very shy at first. I still managed to land myself a great guy.

If you’re shy like me, you can actually use this to your advantage.

#1. Don’t be too forward

When you’re first potentially looking for an older man or sugar daddy, always keep in mind that you don’t want to come across as being too forward. You don’t want to put it right out there that you’re on the market for an older man with money—you’ll just end up looking like a gold digger who’s only interested in his money. Just because he is interested in dating younger women, it doesn’t mean he isn’t interested in other qualities, like a solid emotional connection.

#2. Avoid trauma dumping

Also, avoid divulging all of your personal problems right at the beginning. Don’t make it immediately known that you’re struggling to pay bills or to make ends meet. You can both discuss the details and work out some sort of financial arrangement once you are comfortable with each other. You want to appear independent and capable of taking care of yourself, with or without a man.

The words, “Will you buy me that,” may sound cute coming out of the mouth of a two-year-old, but not so much when it’s coming from a grown woman.

#3. Don’t outsmart him

Another thing older men desire is a woman who is intelligent and confident. But you don’t want to go too far.

In my relationship, my older man is in the legal field, and while he appreciates that I have a degree, it’s never a good idea to try and seem smarter than he is. Even if you have a PhD and you really are smarter than he is, there’s no need to make it known—the man has an ego and the last thing you want to do is bruise it.

Trying to outsmart men can be a huge turnoff for them, especially if they’re in the legal or medical fields. If he invites you to attend a work conference or industry event with him, or even if he brings you around a group of his colleagues, don’t try to talk over them unless you actually have something to contribute to the conversation. Otherwise, just listen attentively and smile politely. Or if you’re uncomfortable, excuse yourself to get a drink or use the restroom.

While not outsmarting your older man is important, you also don’t want to play dumb. If a potential sugar daddy approaches you, talk as you normally would!

#4. Don’t overplay cute

While you might think that acting like a giggly schoolgirl is cute and charming, sometimes you just come across as being immature and childish. You may end up scaring him away if he thinks you’re uninteresting or vapid.

Just be yourself and if he’s interested, you won’t have to worry about putting on an act every time you’re around him.

#5. Take care of yourself to a higher standard

Last but not least, looks are obviously a huge part of finding the right sugar daddy relationship—and by looks, I mean yours.

While you don’t need to look like a supermodel to land a sugar daddy, older men tend to have a little more appreciation for a woman who takes care of herself. If you’re well manicured and pedicured when you meet your potential suitor, then maintain that—on his tab, of course.

Every relationship is different, but making drastic changes while in a relationship can lead to a break-up. How would you feel if you thought you were getting a suave gentleman, but ended up with a dorky slob?

It’s your body and you are free to make any changes that you would like to, but remember that if you’re dating an older man, his mindset may be different from younger guys—he may not appreciate a tattoo or piercing as much as you think he might. If you’re considering getting inked or pierced, talk to him first to see how he feels about it.

It goes the other way too. Plastic surgery gifts are a popular trend for sugar daddies—I know a lot of girls that look for sugar daddies to help finance breast enhancements, or other cosmetic procedures. But never let a man force you into something you don’t want to do. If your sugar daddy offers up surgery, and it’s something you’re interested in, let him know. But if you’re not interested, let him know that too.

Ultimately, you’re the one that makes the final decision about getting into a relationship with an older man. If you’re considering a sugar daddy, remember this: reeling them in is only half the battle. If you know how to keep them happy, they’ll surely return the favor.
