Same issue. The WD Red Pro NAS 8TB whatever drive price went up something insane since when I first bought them.
Now I'm worried about not being able to replace them when they start failing in my Raid-Z2.

Files don't need to last forever. Nothing does, nothing will. To stress over bits and bytes so much can't be good for one's health.

Also it's a lot easier to backup old gen games. It gets harder with PS1, PS2 games if amount increases

            Anonymous

Ps1 is still easy considering most games are less than 1gb. there is 2418 games for ps1 now we round it up to 2500 just to be safe and multiply it by 3 since there are 3 regions and that gives us 7500 games. considering all games are less than 700mb we can get 5,25TB of games. That's 150$ worth or hard drive space

rsync -avz all day every day

  7. 3 weeks ago

I have built an industrial scale art-archival system with a custom rofi-based GUI, with reverse search and such, currently daily syncing all social media of 400+ artists I like. Only 400GB for now, but I've only used and developed this system for like 8 months.
Completely replaces twitter/pixiv/danbooru/etc, I get around 200 new artworks daily which I enjoy going thru every morning with sxiv.
There is already a ton of completely lost art that I possess. Also some private scans of artbooks from some of my favorite artists, made by friends.

        I also want the src!

It's just an infinitely growing stack of bash/golang scripts around gallery-dl.
Vidrel is local reverse search, that happens to show some of the ui and folder structure.

The idea is just have a folder for each artist, with a "links.txt" or similar. This is then relatively trivial to script stuff around for.

        yes

Naturally I've automated crawling the artists' links by using danbooru's APIs, so all I have to feed it is the name or a link of their art, and it figures out the rest.

            >All of the art you’re archiving is erotic or semi erotic Japanese art.
Are you implying that all Japanese art is erotic in nature, or that all art that ends up in Danbooru is erotic in nature?
Latter has some truth to it, trash gets approved there way easier if it's erotic. But I'd disagree with the former, even if it doesn't matter since you're being facetious anyway.
            >Maybe you could scrape WikiArt instead?
It has no appeal to me. I want to look at cute things, not be a pretentious homosexual (i do that plenty already).

The stuff on wikiart isn't going to throw a conniption over internet drama or go corporate and delete itself off the internet. Only art by contemporary internet artists needs this kind of protection.

You don't. Instead, buy more drives.

My method has been to delete it all and start fresh every 10 years or so. At a certain point you need to realize that the process of collecting them is what's enjoyable; actually hoarding them is not where the fun is and you'll never look at 99% of it ever again.

    Pretty good.

Got AyaseQuart in a pretty nice, stable state, supporting MySQL and SQLite.

I could add more filters to the searc page, and also add a elastice search extension that handles the logstash stuff, but it works as it is atm.

Anyone use pcloud and can they recommend it? I'm thinking of getting the "lifetime" subscription on their July 4th sale so that I can just throw my shit up without having to frick with organizing my drives around the house anymore - I just want to get this off of me and I also don't want to have to account for a monthly subscription. I don't expect the service to actually last my lifetime but I'd break even around 2 years anyway and then I can find something else if I had to

      >not mounted in fstab because no skills
i am confused what you mean by this, make a dir in /mnt so you have a place to view files, get the uuid of your external drive using "sudo blkid" then edit your fstab using that info, run sudo mount -a to rebuild and you are good, no?

sure, i found a spare ssd so we can do it together. first let's see where your external drive currently sits, can you tell which device is which if you run lsblk? if you're not immediately sure, you can usually tell based on size, i.e if you have, say, a 4TB external drive that's usually something you can point out under the size column. notice the uuid of /dev/sda1, we'll map that to our fstab in a bit

            Anonymous

i'm kind of a moron and didn't realize there was already an ntfs file system on /dev/sda1 so the uuid looks different but this is what you should see if your external uses ext4 (i just wiped the drive completely and made a blank ext4 partition,) i don't think it matters but this way there is consistency with the rest of my filesystem. the only commands i left out here are reloading your fstab with "sudo mount -a". you may get a message saying you need to reload systemd daemons, which is "sudo systemctl reload-daemon". you can run "sudo mount -a" again if you want to be safe, but at this point you should see your external drive listed under a mount point under an lsblk, and that should persist upon reboot so your files are accessible as soon as you turn your computer on.

            Anonymous

to add to that, for external drives I usually use the "nofail" option. Otherwise, your system might not boot at all if your external drive isn't plugged in (or the UUID is changed for some reason).

Just recently setting up nightly backups using restic and then used yt-dlp to save the guide I was watching kek. It seemed daunting at first but was actually really simple and I am happy to finally have a real backup that wasn't a sometimes copy/paste onto an external hdd. Feels good. Looking to start into understanding wget, kiwix and/or rolling my own archivebox.

Not bad, this is just part of my collection that I organised, almost entirely anime, a few movies/tv series and ROMs/emulators with a limited amount of gravure photobooks. I deleted most of my porn once SD became a thing because I can generate better porn than most artists put out now, my consumption of booru/pixiv content has dropped to almost 0 but I do follow a few older gravure idols and artists who I've been fond of for a long time. I really need 1 more 16TB drive then it'll contain everything I have, just waiting for a good deal
