The modern-day roadmap of a writer is to first swindle a remote coding job. Travel to somewhere like Mexico where you have more purcashing power and get Foreign Earned Income Exclusion (if you are in America). Next, minimize your labour input and maximize your perceived labour output. Then, enjoy your corporate-sponsored writing time, while taking momentary breaks to paint the insides of the local women white.

      >get a remote coding job and live cheap
      Done.
      >write
This is where it all falls apart for me.

all these remote jobs have now been given to india
why would they pay you to do this job when they can just use the lower purchasing power of the like-mexicans who will also minimize labor and maximize perceived labor output? you dont even know the language so you wouldnt get to speak to women much less cum inside one

you've got 12 yos perception of how world operates

Writing career? I have a day job, I'm a remote IT guy, I make a livable way while doing so little my house is spotless, squeaky clean.

I write for fun, adding money and deadlines to the equation would not only destroy my internal motivation but also eradicate my enjoyment of writing.

I've got the neuroticism, isolation, and narcissism to make it. Now I just need the talent. I'm feeling good about my career.

I'm a reader, not a writer. In the same way, one is a cinema goer and not a moviemaker. Very alike to the case of being a listener and not a musician, and I am guilty of these too. The admittance of a lack of greatness takes guts, the realization that you're part of the eternal audience. It's of such pathetic poignancy, entertaining little dreams, those wingless ones.

Do you still write for yourself? I came to a similar conclusion about six months ago, but still enjoy writing as a way to learn about myself, experience as they say aesthetic bliss and become closer to God. I love reading other people’s writings, but only I know exactly what I want and need from a book. I don’t care if what I produce is a piece of shit or not. I don’t share it with anyone else anyways. It is something I need to do in order to continue to live a beautiful life. As long as I am capable of inspiring myself then nothing will stop me.

Honesty, things are looking up. About to finish the second draft of my novel and at this point I don’t think any further drafts are necessary; just get in contact with an editor while in the meantime building a platform on Instagram via modeling. I’m really feeling the hopium right now.

      >I wrote my own video games,
how does this differ from a novel? is a video game just a series of points of action which the character moves towards? a checklist of goals?

not who you are replying to but it's more like writing a script and a general world-building document for the designers to follow.

Depends on the sort of game. I was referring to the literary content, rather than the design and coding that I also handled. I would say the writing involved lots of short branching dialogue trees, description texts, and an overall story designing with variables to determine how things progress in the game. I was trying to present the story of Theseus' initial journey to Athens, so there was a fair bit of research.

    >enter it at the end of January
    >story changes to "In Progress" on Submittable at the start of April
    >it's now almost the end of May
    >still "In Progress"

This wait for the judgment is killing me. The longer it goes on the more I wonder if they're seriously considering me for placement in the contest. But then again I may just be getting myself hyped up only to be disappointed. That's happened before.

I've made it into many literary journals, served as the editor at a lit mag, and written several books over the last few years, two of which I'm now beginning the pitching phase for. By all accounts, I've earned all the credentials necessary to earn a decent publishing deal for at least one of these books. I should be content. Turns out, slaving away at your desk for hours every night, never allowing yourself to work full-time jobs, and isolating your romantic partners while you're trying to "make it" is a recipe for discontent when you finally allow yourself to slow down. This is what it means to be truly alone. I'm just glad I came to this realization before I hit my thirties, like those professional women who end up hopping on SSRIs and such.

i am a poet. i am going to attend a local artist networking event on the 30th in toronto. the foundation which is running it is dedicated to immigrants, newcomers, and refugees. i am interested in seeing the quality of their work, and maybe making a friend or two. besides this all i do is write poetry and journal entries. i hope for someone to read what i have written and have it resonate with them.

Waiting for results from a few screenplay competitions. I have no doubts it's good (enough people who are willing to give me harsh and honest feedback really liked it), but I also know it's not really a screenplay that many studios are likely to take a gamble on.

I'm thinking of writing a virtual novel since those seem to be a good way to get eyes on your stuff these days, but I don't really have an idea that would suit interactivity yet. Still thinking on that.

Eternally doing research for "the big novel", which is years away but the more I research for it the more I think I might be able to actually manage it.
