To be honest balto-slavs might justbe cursed similar to WHG. They probably descend from a bottlenecked population of like 10 people that ruined all their fits for eternity. Sad reality.

since this is the designated haplomentalillness thread, is it me or does the Yamnaya/Afanasievo cluster specifically has some WSHG ancestry that isn't in e.g early CWC?
not even talking about outliers like those from central asia but even some from Ukraine/Russia seem to have sometimes ~10% WSHG

    i.e try I3141(Yamnaya Ukraine) vs PNL001(CWC Czechia)

Yamnaya were literal trash, you're right. It's evident Corded Ware was the noble lineage of sredny stog and Yamnaya the trash golem outcasts who imported WSHG mail order brides.

it's probably not wshg, it's excess ANE relative to forest EHG. Corded has it too but the calculator lowers it because they have more Ukraine_n (if ANE can get balanced out by a WHG source it will just lump it into EHG.
My assumptions about this are based on how much Yamnaya/corded loves Progress_en which when modeled shows extremely high ANE (do kotias, whg, ANE and compare the ratio in progress vs sidelkino/karelia hg).

        Anonymous

"ANE" is worthless garbage on its own. It was specifically the Afontova Gora 3 mediated EHGods that were superior.

        Anonymous

        CHG is literally 20% ANE

        Anonymous

Bad premise because progress likes sidelkino and karelia. What it actually decides to reject in g25 models is Kotias, instead picking sarazam or other tajikstan neolithic sources because the CHG source is low in EHG/ANE content.

          Anonymous

Progress will always want ANE in excess of whatever EHG is provided, regardless of set up.
the only exception may be TTK from Posthe/Yu. I don't remember how it responded to that.

Sarazm is a thousand years younger than Progress, and the same phenomenon is observable to a lesser extent in the middle don samples dated another a thousand years before. I imagine the intensity in Yamnaya is somewhere between the two (lower don).

            Anonymous

So let me get this straight. You don't think steppe eneolithic is a roughly half way mix between EHG and CHG?

            Anonymous

I think "EHG" has variable ANE-richness, or at least whatever made its way into Progress did.
Alternatively, the "CHG" in progress is especially ANE-rich.
I suspect it is the former given the profiles of samples older than Progress found in roughly adjacent regions (TTK, Tyumen vs Iran and South caucaus).
Unfortunately we don't have any older north caucasus/ don-caspian samples besides the middle don guys who are actually located fairly northern.

            Anonymous

            >I think "EHG" has variable ANE-richness
I mean, a bit? Karelia seems 70% ANE which is the peak. Sidelkino is 63-65%. I'm not sure how major that is.

            Anonymous

The forest sources on the European side of the Urals all behave roughly the same. On the other side Tyumen has clear excess and TTK from 6000bc has close to zero WHG. We have nothing in the north caucasus before progress/meshoko, and nothing whatsoever from the lower don so it's an open question in my view.

So basically there was unknown near 100% ANE east of EHG.

            Anonymous

            >unknown
Not that much, its probably botai ancestors. And they likely carried some east asian dna similar to tarim, its the best proxy for sarazm, geokysur, etc, ANE

            Anonymous

I should note that Yamnaya loves the middle don samples in conjunction with Progress in G25. That combo with EEF essentially will block a sizeable contribution from other sources with the exception of some of the leaked khvalynsk samples.

            >Progress will always want ANE in excess of whatever EHG is provided, regardless of set up.
Thats the problem, it doesn't rejects the EHG source, it rejects the CHG one instead picking sarazm.
G25 also has meme behaviours regarding certain ancestries, soecially if you pick one from the upper paleolithic.

idk if maybe it's also a problem with references because I'm trying to make a csv with numerous references all averaged together(e.g instead of using only Karelia_HG as reference for EHG I add together all official EHGs[Karelia, Samara, Veretye, etc...] but also all the new EHGs from Volosovo, Sidelkino, etc...), checking if they more or less cluster together
maybe a problem is that I'm using an average of the two CHGs, Kotias(which is in the official G25) but also Satsurblia from a recent subset of G25 coords generate by Davidinski, whose distance from the latter is not trivial it seems, so maybe it's that causing issues as well, though making an average from 2 seems always better than using a singleton as source
soon we'll probably also have a third CHG from Allenthoft so that's gonna help too
        check this out http://sprunge.us/L58btW

yeah it seems I get in general excess WSHG for the Progress/Steppe EMBA types compared to using less numerous "standard" references, but still, in both actual CWC gets 0
pic is from my program but I double checked and I get the same numbers with Vahaduo so my algorithm isn't the problem, it's the references
I guess technically it isn't also necessarily better to pool more EHGs together if they aren't relevant for Yamnaya as less numberous references like Karelia_HG are, but at the same time maybe it makes it more neutral

            Anonymous

if I use only Kotias, WSHG plummets, so I guess it is trying to compensate, and the problem maybe is that Satsurblia, although the earliest CHG, is also the most removed from the kind of CHG needed in the steppe, so maybe this is indeed inflated

            Anonymous

ok, adding AG3 seems to confirm what the other anon was saying regarding the ANE problem, it's not really WSHG but excess ANE that improves the fits
but interesting how for CWC those bulk reference means are fairly stable

            Anonymous

Look how worthless Yamnaya is compared to CWC EHGods. No wonder Yamnaya was so easily defeated.

      Anonymous

Yeah, but not exactly, is probably something on the maykop-progress-WSHG cline, first yamnaya were found well formed arround ukraine and it seems that ever since Ukraine N is elemental to their composition, it can be in fact used as measure of dilution in Steppe pastoralist ancestry, with the solid founder lineage being 13% ish percent

it's probably not wshg, it's excess ANE relative to forest EHG.

Hardly, G25 also has a horrible tendency to dissociate CHG and WHG into additional ANF and EHG

Y-DNA here maybe kinda helps because Khvalynsk is known to have excess Siberian ancestry and also to carry some of the earliest R1b-V1636, the same showing up in Progress which also seems to show extra ANE/WSHG, so maybe there's some connection there which is lacking in the more western steppe, where on the other hand we are mostly well under M269
