Duolingo? More like Duoshit, you spend more time watching ads than actually learning a language in this piece of shit app. Just grab a grammar book ffs

Duolingo is garbage and doesn't teach you much past the bare basics.

This is the way. I became much more proficient at Spanish after reading through "Easy Spanish: Step-by-step"

        >I became much more proficient at Spanish after reading through "Easy Spanish: Step-by-step"
Me alegra escuchar eso, anon. Es mucho mejor invertir 15 minutos leyendo un libro que gastarlos en frente de una pantalla repitiendo ejercicios tediosos una y otra vez. El problema principal de duolingo es la mala implementación del elemento lúdico en el aprendizaje, sin mencionar todo el lavado de cerebro con el multuculturalismo forzado. Creo incluso haber visto un arabe con los bigotes al estilo friedich nietszche pero muy afeminado entre tantos de los personajes de duolingo. Holy shit

That's actually nice to hear. Spanish is similar to Italian. I made a one year course in italian IRL afew years ago , I used to practice watching Fist of the North Star (italian dub) to practice the language. It's a pretty popular anime in Italia. But now I'm focused in Japanese , learning elementary school kanji words currently (1000 basic words involving kanji)

Italians come to South America and can learn the language in two weeks, find a 10/10 chica and start international drugs trading. I’m not joking, seen it happening in two weeks

Italian and Spanish are mutually intelligible to begin with, as long as they are spoken slow

          >I agree very so anon it is very mediocre 15 minutes lessons of only reading what is smelly poop this one aspect is annoying tedious repetition and is boring. the principal problem of Duolingo is the bad implication of the element of the interface, it's in your face with multiculturalism garbage, the inclusion of dumb Arabs bigots is what Friedich Nietzsche warned us about very so of the people of Duolingo. Holy shit

know nothing of Spanish. wanted to try and translate without translator. was I close?

bigote in spanish means "moustache" kek. (not bigot) I'd say you guessed 50% a little way off but impressive if you guessed all of it without translators). The core of my message (not literal translation) was that it's better to invest 15 minutes reading an actual book or pdf than doing the same repetitive exercises over and over again. I've also said that Duolingo sells itself as a sort of entertaining and fun videogame in which you learn a language, but fails horribly in that aspect, because you end up "playing" Duolingo (I'm in le 40 days streak!, I'm #3 in the silver league! oohh I'm out of hearterinos!) instead of actually learning a language. I've also criticized the forced multiculturalism and lgtb agenda (one of duolingo characters looks like an arab version of a gay Nietszche) That's pretty much about it. were you close? not quite at the last sentence

by the way the female characters are self inserts because they always are

      https://blog.duolingo.com/duolingo-female-character-origin-stories/

      >You mentioned diversity–how did you think about representation when creating these women, while also writing against stereotypes?

      >We thought a lot about how to subvert stereotypes, but the most important thing was keeping the characters real. To do that, we pulled in a lot of inspiration from our own lives – friends, sisters, moms – who reminded us of our characters. If you know even one person who shares Lily’s self-protective sarcasm, then I hope she feels real to you. (Personally, I was a total Lily in high school – her apathy and reticence – mixed with Zari’s need to be a straight-A student.) The more specific you can be about the traits that make us who we are, the more realistic and meaningful the representation will be.

      >Are any of the characters inspired by a woman in your life?

      >The dynamic between Lin and Bea is somewhat inspired by me and my childhood best friend. Growing up, I was very type-A, like Zari, and my best friend was very much a Lin. I put a lot of effort into everything while she winged it. And somehow it would always work out better for her… which was endlessly frustrating to me! But yes, my BFF was definitely a little bit of a Lin. Funnily enough, as we grew up, we both started gravitating towards the middle of the Bea-Lin spectrum.

Read enough grammar and do enough Anki to get the basics, then just mostly do immersion in your target language. That's literally all. Duolingo will have you sounding like a tourist moron, which is okay if you're learning it for tourist purposes but otherwise its a waste of time.

I finished the Polish course before they changed it to make it better for morons. I'd say it's ok to give you the basics, but not much better than that. Especially if you're looking at a language that has cases or something very different from the ones you already know

Duolingo is gay. Learn how to read and put in hours listening. Over time you'll learn grammar. That's literally it and how foreigners learn English.

      Anonymous

Even better would be to find a native speaker and hold conversations with them. Have them read articles from a newspaper or news website. The learner then asks questions about the article and the native speaker answers the questions.

Lingq is good if you have at least a basic grasp of the grammar of the language (you might need to do something else first if you aren't familiar with genders and cases). I would also recommend it
