I am not well educated in philosophy. Could you explain what is the overman, and how to become one?

They will make humans look like chimps. You cannot become one, you can only try to hasten their arrival

The part about humans and chimps is actually quite interesting. There are a number of lines in a few texts where Nietzsche makes reference to the Ubermensch being a different species, but the wordplay is such that there is a possibility he is saying it more with the intent of saying they will be of such a caliber of human that they will seemingly be a different species. I have seen newer versions of Nietzsche's texts that put this language back in.

yeah the overman is clearly a prophecy of the evolution of the human species. You don’t just decide to become the overman any more than a chimp can decide to become human. That’s why N emphasized building the bridge for the overman, and not actually trying to be the overman

Well, Kaufman translations aside even Nietzsche seems to believe the process might be achievable depending on text. The only one that seems to possess a 'working' blueprint is likely Zarathustra, and the interpretive nature involved will still support multiple derivations. If one were to revalue all values and determine their own value as a result and then live that way then it is almost something of a socially recognized phenomenon as to whether or not said person is an ubermensch or not.

Seems like a self defeating philosophy since everyone is gonna think they are the ubermensch

Plato was the biggest sophist of all

In a literal sense he was not because he did not charge money to speak. The more you know.

You know well that sophistry does not generally refer to charging to speak, but using fallacious reasoning and passing it off as sound, which is what Plato did.

Sophist in the Greek sense means paid to speak. He literally was not part of the sophist school.

            >fallacious reasoning

The problem is that Socrates often picks many points which may seem contradictory and holds on for dear life. I agree that the forms idea is stupid but a general idealist/ agnostic belief is rational to me. This is found within Plato’s Apology.

The dialogues are exhausting. Socrates’ opponents are always midwits who offer little resistance in the critical moments. I can hardly finish them without being frustrated because I instantly see a counter-argument that Plato did not anticipate.

            So, just more intellectually capable?

Not just intellectually superior, but more life-affirming, and a stronger will to power. We’re basically just evolving into something that will give us the best chances of survival against an invading alien species.

It is pointless to explain it to you. Just pick up a book and start reading.

Ive read some parts of the republic. I enjoy reading philosophy here and there, but I dont have time to do it thoroughly. Can somebody just sum up the idea of overman, I want to change my life, and need some guidance

Read the Appendix to Part 4 of Spinoza’s Ethics for what Nietzsche would likely consider a Platonized expression of his core ideas. It’s very short and allows you to think critically for yourself as to what about the work Nietzsche would claim runs against his prophecy.

Why do you need a funny mustache man who’s been dead for 224 years to guide you how to live your life?

Idk, overman just sounds cool, I am tired of being just a man
On the more serious note, I have trouble with nihilism for years now, cant feel hapiness and nothing has any value for me, everything seems meaningless
and Ive heard the moustache guy wrote about it, so he might have the cure

Either you will figure it out or you won’t. If you don’t, then at least maybe your genes will be removed from the gene pool within a few generations. The overman doesn’t struggle to seek out meaning, his life is inherently meaningful

            >inherently meaningful
So overman is just a guy on heroic doses of copium? Listen, I can distract myself also and enjoy it a bit, but how can anyone say there is a meaning in anything, even fricking sun is going to burn out one day
I know I sound high-school and edgy but thats exactly why I am here, tell me I am wrong and tell me how

Read Nietzsche, perform the revaluation of values, find meaning, act on it, either it happens or it doesn't. If you are currently just a lazy nihilist then look at it from a perspective that you are just wasting time until death anyhow, go do it and see what it means for yourself.

Nihilism is a reflection of you, not life in general. The world is neither meaningful nor meaningless. We impose these interpretations ourselves.

You don't become one, it's representative of the forces over man. "The coming of the over man" where we touch active forces.

The overman is one who does not make judgements based upon values like "good" and "bad", "true" or "false", but creates his own values in accordance with his whim. I recommend reading Daybreak by Nietzsche, it's very readable and accessible to newbies, and then taking a look at the first few pages of Nietzsche and the Vicious Circle. The long and short of it is you have to be an aristocrat that manages many slaves, and then you must induce severe schizophrenia within yourself and be too physically powerful to be stopped.
