I can't help but feel the aftereffects of modern literature are very similar to the aftereffects of modern music.

I can't help but feel the aftereffects of modern literature are very similar to the aftereffects of modern music. It is all now a cope and an attempt to immitate the innovation of the modern period yet with zero talent. Like a baboon throwing shit at a wall just to see if something new happens.

      But!
They do have a talent for ruining any hope of their host nation to produce any talent

There's good music out there, you just have to learn how to sift, so I imagine there is good modern lit out there but you wont find any of it near a mainstream publisher.

IQs in Western nations peaked around the 1870s. Post-industrial conditions have relaxed Darwinian selective pressures so that mutated low IQ people have no problem breeding, whereas in the past selection would have happened.

explain to a brainlet how they peaked as I have heard they historically have been increasing relatively

        NTA
It was actually G (general intelligence) that peaked in 1870. IIRC it's mostly measured (when looking into the past) by per capita innovation and literacy (vocabulary used in texts and letters from the period).
"IQ" was going up until recently; however, IQ is extremely limited in the scope of what it measures, and the result is only as good as the people making the test and the people determining what the score of the test means. Since it is an entirely abstract quantity, what it "is" is entirely malleable and subject to manipulation.
People were only becoming more narrowly "intelligent" in their ability to take standardized tests in an entirely simulated environment; the results of which are easily manipulated and subject to test-maker error.
It's like when teachers teach students how to pass a test, but don't teach the subject itself. The "test scores" are high, but the students themselves have not received an education and will go on to be incompetent since they only know how to pass tests.

Wouldn't extreme population boom somewhat off set that though? Like the average becoming lower, just means there are fewer high iq people proportionately, not that there are fewer high iq people

That study was released in 2009 and that was the latest data they had at the time.
My impression is that things got worse since that time.

The name of the study is "The Paradox of Declining Female Happiness". It is about how "paradoxically" feminist increased, but at the same time the end result was that women becoming unhappier in that era (both in absolute terms and comparable to men).
The authors are a couple of liberal (in the American sense) economists.

I suppose one could apply this argument to any period between innovations but if it helps any the innovator is also just a baboon throwing shit at the wall, it just happens to form an equivalent of a Jackson Pollack upon impact.
