Inertia of entry. You'll need to learn things before you can efficiently use a PC, while a phone is easy enough for literal 3 year olds. Even if it's inefficient, monke brain usually prioritizes immediate gain.

Smartphones can do all the things desktop computers can. So why do you need a desktop?

Ironically, most prefer "teaspoon". The reason isn't because its a teaspoon, the reason is because the teaspoon is handy and gets the job done in time/efficiently. If you need a computer while you're driving, you dont have time for starting a laptop. If you need it when you're out in the water, you dont have time to setup a laptop or a desktop in the middle of no where.

So first you say you're safe if you use a custom rom, which you're not, but now the argument is changed to computer users aren't safe either? It's far easier to control things on a computer than a phone and there are more options. ALL phones have a proprietary baseband chip which is integrated with the memory and the SoC (other than the librem one), that means it can access everything. The same isn't true for an ethernet card.

This just shows you how bad computer education is these days. 99% of highschools don’t teach kids that there are programs other then .exe files. And that is if they are lucky enough to even have computer education and know what folders are.

Ikr. People act like my age is the problem. Phones are computers now. I don't see the point in a full desktop, having never owned one. Grew up without one. Parent got me a smartphone when I turned 14. I've always just had the Internet in my pocket. It runs Linux (Android). I don't get the obsession with desktop computers. Hardly anyone uses them my age. Maybe gamers but I don't waste my life on that garbage.

It's a major pain in the ass to make anything functional in any reasonable time. Another use case is controlling any number of servers or developing any software. It's just such a third-class citizen in practically anything creative it just isn't worth the time. Like mentioned previously in thread, it's a teaspoon. With enormous time and effort you _can_ make yourself a trench, but I'd certainly prefer something more suited for the job.

You can tell an AI to write music and sounds for you, not even an app is required. I can't tell one to fix my fridge door or even to make a piece for it. Designing one is very straight forward on a traditional computer, very time consuming on a phone. Unless you're really constrained or live in middle of a warzone I don't recommend using inferior tools for a job.

Of course we do, we need to create stuff afterall and phones just aren't even in the same league. A company doesen't want to pay someone $200 an hour to fiddle with their phone, they'll actually want results and a few grand for a powerful computer is a nobrainer

I haven't seen a single 4080 equivalent phone anywhere for any price though. You can always cope, it's true, afterall I've run 64B models on CPU only because I can't afford $40K GPUs, but a phone would be a new low

Well the next time someone answers your stupid question don't slap back with moronic things that are easily disproven. People stopped using desktops ages ago. It's going to be related to office work and back end shit. PC gaming isn't an argument if you argue for productivity. Gaming saps your life away.

It just sounds like you're lying to yourself more than us. Desktops and laptops are absolutely everywhere because real work is everywhere. Everything saps your life away, there's no inherently better way to spend time, I think what matters is your own happiness during it.

Not from my experience, but things might be different in the liberal arts. Chromebooks are pretty rare in STEM classes; even the stats and biosci majors are mostly on real laptops.

It's not too late. You can still go out and make friends. Ask some hot women (or men if you prefer) out. If they say no, move on. You'd be surprised what you can do if you take your shot. If you sit in your house forever and never make any attempts at living, you'll never know what exists in the world friend.

This is cope, you have a narrow window to form these kinds of relationships. Normies do it on auto-pilot, if you didn't deliberately do it during that window (school, college, or early worK) it's finished

There's a reason they call us normies. It's literally the way to be fulfilled. The reason you're always miserable is the fact that you fight it.

Yeah but it's not something you need to obsess over. Chasing an experience, you'll end up getting fricked over. It's much healthier to let it go.

I think rather than letting go of having sex you could spend some money and buy sex instead. You'll still get all the fun without the obsession.

Perhaps, but if it's women he's sad that he missed out on rather than just "sex" a hooker would be the worst thing for him. Which is why I think it's healthier to find an internal solution.

Newton and Tesla were too high IQ and driven to focus on women, notice how normies are the equivalent of animals only fulfilling their biological needs, I won't deny we need relationships with others to survive but full blown normies are on par with monkeys. Sex is nice though.

If they were being truthful, probably sw dev. It would match up with IQfys theme. Lots of factors and ways to count it of course. My friend "makes" $100/hour, but being his own boss he has to pay everything else on top of normal taxes, leaving him with more like $40/hour

Will force is a very limited resource, and while like a muscle it can strengthen with use, nobody can lift a truck with their bare hands no matter how hard they try. And like a muscle it can get tired from straining for too long doing everything else "only" requiring some force of will.

Really the main way we do things is because it's immediately beneficial and/or not requiring much thought.

Easiest answer ever - parents. Do you think an 8 year old kid just decides "Huh, I will now use a smartphone/a PC" and gets one? No. It's moronic parents who would rader let YouTube kids take care of their children harming them by making them develop a dependency on these satanic devices from the youngest age. Computers seem alien to them, and also unnecessary, because they can do their social media and other idiotic consoomption through their phone. They literally prefer typing on a fake made up flat surface than on an actual keyboard. But I don't blame them, I blame their moronic parents.

My grandma has been babysitting my 2yo cousin. She puts an ipad in front of her face, but my cousin gets bored of the kids cartoon in like a minute and always wants to interact with people/ help with things/ play.

I think it might have a lot to do with attention. If a kid is more engaged with the real world, hypnotic cartoons would be less appealing than they would be if the child didnt recieve any attention and care from the people around them.

Gonna be honest, seeing an infant grow up has white?pilled me on the whole nuture is nature thing.

        Anonymous

Yeah. If I ever get a chance to bring a child upon this wretched world, I want it to happen only when I can provide them everything they need to develop into someone who isn't braindead. Give them opportunities from the youngest age to engage in sports. Play instruments. Learn about cool stuff. Of course not forcing anything, just showing them there are options and that they have 100% of my support whatever they choose to do, be it driving gokarts, playing football, learning about computers or playing guitar. Whatever it takes to make that kid feel loved and give them attention and the room to grow.
