Why? It's superior to HDMI in every way.

I have nothing but issues with it.
      >Upgraded my gpu, DP screen starts flickering
      >starts blacking out on and off if I turn the brightness up
      >HDMI screen working fine.
      >Spend half a day trying to get the DP screen to stop flickering with no success
      >tried messing with BIOS settings, used DDU to wipe the display drivers, tried changing the display settings in nvidia control panel
      >unplug the DP cable and plug into another port on the gpu
      >windows pulls the displayport not recognized game with me and now the screen isn't working at all
      >restart computer and try reattaching the cable once the system has booted
      >nothing
      >turn power off to the system completely and try again
      >nothing
I'm going to shoot this fricking thing

It was working, now it's fricked. I've had the 'no signal detected' issue happen so many times I've lost count.

That's not a cable problem, that's an OS/Driver at fault. Assuming reseated.

Yea I tried resetting the drivers. It's not even an uncommon issue apparently. I get dozens of threads on various websites come up when searching for how to fix it, but none of what they suggest has worked.

You'd think they would have sorted out displayport issues on the OS years ago

            >hey would have sorted out displayport issues on the OS years ago
They likely had. They're in the phase of rewriting core components because the old guard have left windows. No joke. Used to be you would type password to login, and keyboard input goes directly to the password form field.
Now they say PIN and you have to type one letter to ... gain focus? on the login screen? Rewriting the login... why? stop breaking what's already working!

        >breaks a cable
        >it's the standard's fault!
        yeah

Anyway, DP >> HDMI. It's what HDMI should have been instead of the limited, expensive frankenstandard made by greedy TV manufacturers.

I didn't break the cable, the cable was working fine until I switched out gpu's. The no signal thing happens all the time randomly when I unplug the cable to clean out the case or whatever needs to be done.

I had issues like this once because of a chinkshit cable. In the DP standard there's a +3.3V power pin on both ends that is supposed to be ignored in a cable, it's there for powering active adapters and shit like that, but some moronic chinks make cables where it's connected anyway creating a short circuit. It worked fine on one PC but on another it caused screen flickering, USB devices resetting, and even turning the PC on at random. I opened up the cable and cut the wire going to that pin and it fixed everything.

Ok sorted out the no signal issue, forgot I had to disconnect power to the monitor and the computer to get it back. Fricking Windows. Flicker still there.

Kek, can't imagine how incompetent someone has to be to have issues with DP.

The point of DisplayPort is to get a moving picture to a screen. The point of HDMI is to charge you a license fee.
They are not the same. DisplayPort is consistently better.
