Being in the workforce sucks for like the first 7-8 years. You'll never have enough experience and always been seen as a useless teenager moron even if you're in your early-mid 20s. Then one day you magically have enough age and experience and the "adults" start treating you like one of their own. How it's always been, I assume.

HAHAHA I ALSO HAVE A DEGREE IN IT AND CAN'T FIND A JOB AS A $20/HOUR HELP DESK TECHNICIAN LMAO.

    Reasons:

    1) IT field is oversaturated. Way too many graduates and not enough jobs. Especially not enough entry level positions for recent grads with no experience.

    2) Too much outsourcing and cloud computing that takes jobs away from Canadians and gives them to foreigners. Like a cloud computing center in America, or IT support based in India.

    3) AI and automation of systems. A few guys can manage an entire data center with thousands of computers.

    4) Massive tech layoffs from big companies like Apple, Amazon, Meta, Google, Microsoft, etc, all have fewer employees this year than previous year.

IT is difficult to get into now unless you graduate from a top university, are a genius, or have connections or are just lucky to get your foot in the door after applying to hundreds of jobs.

        >I'm unemployed and unemployable because of people born in the 1940s.
Sorry to break it to you, champ, but the reason people could walk into a good job with a 4 year degree 40 years ago is that people as lazy and stupid as you would have just flunked out of college. Today's diploma mills will give a degree to you, Tyrone, Rajeesh, Jose, or anybody else who can get a student loan and show up most of the time without committing too many major felonies.
        >REEEE how do I experience!!!
How about instead of e-crying on IQfy about how your failure to do anything with your life is the fault of people born in the 1940s, you use the device you're posting with to write some useful code that you could either use to make money yourself, sell to somebody for money, or show to a prospective employer. It's not like you're trying to experience your way into antique car restoration where you'd need a lot of capital for a shop, tools, and parts to practice the trade to get good enough that someone else would pay you to do it.

        >I did the internships and the networking and it doesn't work.
Doubt. Or you're just truly an imbecile and everybody you met wants nothing to do with you now because they realize you're an incompetent troublemaker.
Historically the option of last resort for otherwise unemployable under-men has been the military. If you actually do have a 4 year degree you can go in as an officer assuming you're not a felon, a drug addict, or complete dysgenic freak. 19 out of 20 military jobs are just make-work do-nothing positions for minorities, women, and people just like you. Don't worry about being sent to "the front", we're not at war with anybody, likely will not be, and realistically there's no shortage of high T men that genuinely want to kill brown people who volunteer for those jobs these days.
If that doesn't work, you can always have a nice day, hope the Pajeets are right about reincarnation, and hope you roll better stats next try.

            >Rich/well connected people use nepotism to get jobs,
Rich people don't live on another planet, anon. If you go to even a good state school SOMEBODY there is the son or daughter of somebody with money/power/influence. Rich people also have lives, they belong to civic organizations like the Lions, they are often active in local government or a large church, they have hobbies like golfing, fishing, rowing, and at least one that I know is very active in coaching sports that his children do and that he used to enjoy.
It's a funny old world when you could be just doing something useful in your community like helping out with a church fundraiser or coaching the local youth tennis league and meet a guy who gets calls from the Secretary of Defense and goes to those 30,000$ a plate fundraisers that presidents have.

          Hi, unemployeed engineer here.

My past job I worked 10 hour days 6 days per week. No problem. Used to work 12 hour days before that when I was a regional project manager. Recently Ive been content with 8 hour/5 day weeks with the associated paycut because my wife is needy.

I have experience programming several computer languages, doing industrial machine networking, and hands on experience designing and installing electromechanical systems. Worked as an electronics tech for 8 years, got a degree in engineering an physics, and been working as an accredited engineer for 5 years.

I have been fired a few times, but usually because of refusal to violate OSHA safety guidelines for automated machinery, or refusing to manipulate cable tension data sent to the coast guard, or for insisting on giving American manufacturers fair consideration. Ive been fired simply for being white too.

I typically apply to about 10-20 jobs every day for a few weeks, then wait for those leads to dry out and then repeat.

          Been unemployed 6 months now.

The economy legitimately is shit right now for people like me; Im a white male in california. Ive started identifying as a black female on applications.

In the meantime Ive been finding some consulting work and doing gigs to stay afloat. Thinking of going full freelance and offering a home landscapping/garden irrigation automation service or starting a plant nursery to cope with the changing landscape. Maybe ill buy a bitcoin miner.

In the 90s I made career choices because I was told america was going into the future with industrial robotics, but foreign imports and immigrants have drowned the opportunities away.

I honestly don't think anything will ever get better unless a violent civil war starts soon.

I know a guy up my way who is an electrician but does a nice sideline building small custom hydroponics setups. Probably a lot less capital intensive than landscaping where you'll need a fair bit of heavy equipment, trailer and truck to haul it, but then again if you can buy a 1 ton, trailer, skid steer or mini-excavator worst comes to worse you can bill out 150$ an hour for the machine and an operator even in bumblefrick nowhere, I'm sure a lot more in CA.
I'm 80% confident you're going to make it and I'd raise that to 99.9% if you get the frick out of California.

I hear you anon, but I will suggest that the best thing you can do in your position is to save a nest egg so that you keep extra money in cases of emergencies or to buy in bulk or in advance when it saves you considerably. I pay my cell phone a year at a time to get a nice savings. Same with car insurance and anything else where if I pay in advance I'll save a lot. Also you should try to simplify your lifestyle and cook your own food as much as possible to save money. Even if you have to bust your ass doing OT or a side job for a little while, you save up money and makes life just a bit easier being poor. I'm at a point where I'll bust my ass of for a few months than quit working for a few months, rinse and repeat. Did that from oct-dec, then took off from Jan to now and I'm starting a job later this week.

Fricking kek. Welcome to America Black person. America doesnt need more computer workers looking for a cushy job. It needs more construction and manufacturing workers. Yeah, the whole STEM thing they pushed was a massive scam. They already knew at the time that all that shit was being outsourced, infilled with H1Bs or would be replaced with AI. It was a massive scam. Midwits fell for it. Don't get me wrong, id rather them learn valuable, practical skills, but there were never any jobs for them. Don't believe me? In 2021? 22? out of the top companies hiring, 94% of new hires were minorities. And now they're laying everyone off. Kek.

        Anonymous

        >Yeah, the whole STEM thing they pushed was a massive scam.
But it's not. The people who are competent and/or specialize are in high demand and are doing just fine. The "scam" is universities handing out degrees to dullards like OP who probably can't even write a "hello world" script in C++ making the degree in itself absolutely worthless.
I know a couple old guys who went to tech school in the 60s who talked about half of the engineering class would be flunked out second year. The reason a real company would hire a guy just for having a degree from a well known university was that employers KNEW that those schools had strict standards and didn't just hand out degrees to any dullard who showed up (unless their dad donated a building or something), but I'm guessing if OP's dad was on the board of a few fortune 500s he wouldn't be struggling to find employment.
Fricking pic related is why a college degree is absolutely worthless right now.

          Anonymous

Yes anon, you're talking about a small minority of people who are actually competent. I agree. That's why I said I would prefer them to learn those practical skills over something else. But, the reality remains that most of the people who go for STEM are wholly incompetent and will never get a job. And even if they're the small minority of super competent people, they'll probably not get a job either if they're white and that's most likely the case, aside from Asians.

        Anonymous

Yeah. They flooded that industry with pajeets just like nurses. I would tell OP to get a CDL and be a truck driver but if he's talking about offing himself already life on the road would break him.

I've been hired in since and took offliner courses so I make more double that now, (and there were raises across the board during the pandemic since it's a Japanese company and not a israelite company) but the temp agencies pay 18-21 an hour nowadays

Glad to hear you made out good anon. Yeah I'll be making $21. I'm going back to driving for Amazon. I did it during peak season and took a few months off, but I like driving and it's good exercise and the day goes by so fast. Great thing about it is they're always so desperate for people I can probably work a few months, take a few months off and always get hired back.

            >driving for Amazon
Post office is in pretty shit shape right now but they're always hiring and if you don't mind that sort of work I expect if you eat shit for a few years while things correct it should come back to being decent eventually and they are one of the few jobs left that has a properly funded pension (that you can collect quite young).

            >And even if they're the small minority of super competent people, they'll probably not get a job either if they're white and that's most likely the case,
None of the competent white guys I know are struggling and even the guys I know that aren't even all that bright but are hard workers are doing fine.
As you say though, most people don't really belong in those kinds of jobs and would have done better learning something useful. For example the guy who services chainsaws up here bills about 70$ an hour. Small engine repair isn't rocket surgery and the guys who are good at it always have more work than they can handle.

I would never work for the government. The longest job I've ever had has been 5 years, and that was because they literally didn't give a frick, because I was one of the best workers. I literally came and went whenever the frick I wanted and they were just happy I showed up and let me do whatever the frick I wanted. My second longest job was 1 year and that's only because I really enjoyed what I was doing, but it took me that long to get tired of the BS. All my other jobs, many many many jobs, have all been much less than that, because I fricking hate BS, especially if it's something I don't enjoy.

Bro chill the frick out dont ever do that over a job or especially a woman
Lower your expectations of income to a realistic level i.e. get a regular job for awhile and keep applying to cooler shit on the side. Employers want to see if u can work literally anywhere for an extended period of time. Youll be ok fren

He won't be okay. Stop lying to him.

That sucks bro. Have you tried applying to jobs outside of California?

You got a bullshit degree. You spent four years reading books and taking tests and not doing any paid, practical work to learn the skills necessary to do your job. Employers don’t want a bookworm with a certificate in bookworming. Your degree should have included an apprenticeship so that you had experience by the time you graduated.
