Why do people want 'fancy' cars? It's more rewarding to own an older car outright and do whatever you want to it.

Because if you don't. The people who have access to the jobs that are pulling in the money to afford this lifestyle will gatekeep you out.

There is nothing that says you can't sell a service or good to people without these types of folks help. I'd rather live like a pauper but have the ability to not be beholden to anyone. You can become this while engaging in the flashy showoff lifestyle. You can also attain this by not engaging in it. Become a valuable enough person where the folks who peawiener will do work for you.

If you have enough money for an S-Class in your bank account, go to a dealership that stocks it to initiate the purchase.

What happens when driving the car opens yourself up to the networks of sycophants who will enable you to have a larger income? It would then make sense to finance the vehicle in order to attain access to that lifestyle which would then recoup the cost of financing?

You aren't buying a vehicle in order to recoup an investment from later selling. You're getting the vehicle to broadcast to other morons that you are like them and in doing so opens up new doors for you.

I say this as someone who owns a 12k 2014 vehicle outright and works from home.

Wealthy people don't consider expensive cars a defining characteristic of wealth. You will be seen as one of those pretenders attempting to keep up but you don't fit in. Unless you are in the upper 99th percentile, real millionaires are cheap with expenses and classy in their intelligence.

          >real millionaires are cheap with expenses and classy in their intelligence
well the first part is somewhat true, not really but superficially sort of. They will drive a honda cr-v for the plebs, but on the weekend they have a 911 to back it up. Theyll take that cr-v down to the marina to get on their 50' yacht.

As for classy, no one in america is 'old money' or classy in any way.

You can't afford a Mercedes no matter how you finance it. You are too poor and low class. It just won't fit you. What are you going to do? Pull up to your rental in your mercedes? You going to take a date to McDonalds? Think about it. Luxury vehicles don't fit you.

I like the look of the 2024 Mercedes S class, I can buy one outright as it matches my 1/15th rule for salary, but I'll probably pick up a used one in 4 years when they're $40k, and have had the brunt of the depreciation, then I'll put probably $10k for all the ignored maintenance, $2k on new tires, and $2k on a ceramic coating and bumper to bumper detail to remove the odor of the 4 cuban owners that had it repossessed 7 times because the 14% interest rate is crushing them.
