I noticed a complete lack of diversity at this vintage computer festival near Chicago, why? Is there something about vintage computers that’s not inclusive?

It was a golden era, pre-iphone era, it meant everyone with a computer and on the internet was white. The internet was gate kept until the iphone emerged

there must be hispanics there, they seem even more obsessed with vintage computers, or maybe just for retro consoles now that I think about it

Whites are naturally drawn to old, useless bullshit. This desire becomes especially apparent in their middle age, and is deeply correlated with balding.

Orders of magnitude easier to steal and sell a 6 ounce iPhone than a 30lb XT desktop.

    i haven't thought about it
i can't think of anything about old computers which would make them in any way more or less suited towards specific races, besides perhaps higher intelligence people having more of a use for one, as, generally speaking, the older the computer, the more technically competent you need to be to make good use out of it

I doubt anyone in the pic has any good use of vintage computers other than for hobby purposes.

i'm talking about using them when they were new
you can't have nostalgia for something you didn't use

          >you can't have nostalgia for something you didn't use
you can have something close to it, i mean you have a guy who is super into 18th century cooking even though there is no way he was alive to to experience it that way, can't see why that wouldn't be the case with computer.

sure, you can have a deep appreciation for things that predate yourself, i have an interest in various computers i was too young to have used myself, but it's not nostalgia
not to say you have to have nostalgia to attend those events, just that i would expect more people to be there due to nostalgia than any other reason

i've seen people use "second-hand nostalgia", but it's often used in a disparaging way

i dunno but i think steam trains and battleships are pretty neat and theres nothing wrong with being interested in either, i just think its nerds being frickwits about nothing as usual. I do find zoomers interest in 'retro' windows PC's to be a bit odd though other niche and now non existent platforms I can understand

Not the same thing. He would be the troony of nostalgia tech folks.
True nostalgia is when you actually used it.

i'm 33 and used a 486dx2-66 in my room for a while as a kid
it wasn't a new computer, but i was around 10 year old, so all the stuff i could get was 10-odd year old garage sale parts, so i got to experience that stuff as they were when they were cheap shit nobody wanted anymore
      also, "486dx4 66mhz" isn't a thing, they were 75/100mhz

Because early computers were advertised in comic books and finance magazines. You had to be a rich white person in year 198*
