There are many countries that got geographically and historically lucky who have since completely squandered what they have. Civic nationalism is what keeps america at the forefront of cultural economic and scientific development. Largely it's about freedom of ideas mixed with a competitive environment. Exact opposite example would be North Korea, which if you've seen pictures of that place, it looks like it got frozen in time 60 years ago. Zero new developments, zero cultural change, nothing. Shame NK tours are far rarer now after certain US citizen lobotomies and global lockdowns

It varies across state, federal politics is mostly sportsball culture warring (they both agree on economic policies and funding proxy wars) but state level politics can make some states great and some Mississippi. The issues going on right now are making America actively worse, the corruption and profiteering is getting real bad, but on the other hand we've stepped back from things like the Oil, Steel and Rail monopolies in the 1800s. If you think politicians are being bought out and incentivized now, we somehow managed to step back from some serious bullshit completely democratically with the Sherman Act. I have faith things are gonna be fine.

Because my country is full of unused land that's held by boomers or inheritors who just keep it in hopes the value will bump up over time, all while there's a housing crisis going on. Then they complain how tough they have it when nobody wants to pay their obscene prices. They need to die off

While AMERICA is certainly wealthy, the fed printers have sort of distorted the real picture. the thirty three trillion dollars in debt and ever increasing. On top of that you can look at how European governments consistently kills their own economies from expanding by looking at how Germany cucked itself with energy prices. German chemical industry has collapsed due to this. Much of the European companies have equally if not more talented individuals and researchers to leave America in dust. Just look at performance of Airbus over Boeing. Instead their governments have accepted subservience to AMERICAn hegemony.

      >t. europoor dreaming of working in USA
I work in tech in Sweden, I make 55k, own a house, etc. I got offered a job in the US in Connecticut that paid 105k and it looked pretty tempting at first but then I saw that to buy a house similar to what I have here it was about 1.2m in the area, and to rent one was about 3.5k. I wouldve also had to buy a car since they have no public transport and so on, and in the end it turned out that to have the same type of life I was left with about the same end of month, all while having no job security (here I literally cant get fired) and so on.
The numbers are deceptive, in the areas that pay that much they also tend to have insane costs, and inflation seems to be rising more and more. I dont know, it doesnt look all that worth it. I understand that the true advantages come when you get promoted and start making 175k and more, but I also have heard a lot of horror stories on american workplace memes from international colleagues. Im very used to bosses not even being able to contact me outside of work by law and so on.

            Anonymous

I get 4.5k a month, 3.5k after taxes, 1.5k is mortgage, 0.5k is expenses, 1.5k free. The "all the gadgets you want" obviously comes from the 1.5k, Im not saying you can get all the gadgets you want every month, but you also shouldnt be spending 1.5k a month in gadgets, what I meant is after you buy all the inane shit, you are left with more money coming in that you can just save or whatever.
If you want to spend 500 bucks a month on gadgets then make it 1k free a month for savings.

            Anonymous

I guess it depends on how you calculate your taxes. In "reality" if you earn 4.5k in sweden I think its the same as making 6k in Germany because of how you calculate payroll tax or whatever, countries mention their salaries different I think.

My "cost" to the company is 6k, of which I "get" 4.5k after payroll tax, of which I pay those taxes. So you could claim my salary is instead 72k seeing that way, but we dont.

            Anonymous

Seems like a bullshit way to count taxes. You have very low tax, simple as. The only way this would be comparable to germany is if your job had the same "rarity" or "value" as a 6k/month job in germany, which is nearly triple of what the average peon makes unlike a 4.5k job

Wow what's with Sweden taxes. In Finland my last wage was 4400e and got 3k to me after tax. At the end of year had to even pay 1k extra taxes since they wanted to take even more.
It's still okay but honestly nothing compared to Americans. Receive two or three times the salary while most things cost 20-30% less. For example cars, it crap, food. Here even 10yo cars are new while in USA they'd be crap no one wants.

Europe has no will, its soul has been killed off and its a zombie society as this point. If you compare it to a company, EU is like the GM Motors of the car industry. Its largely a government run business now. The money comes largely from the billions of annual government handouts where the company barely sustains itself. Or the Boeing. And the company doing asphalt concrete stuff propably will get good lumps of cash. They did tree rounds of asphalt near my apartment (20 k€ per m2), it took them 3 days time a total, but because of the corruption it also took whole summer. At the day 1 they did asphalt. then next week they removed it, and started to drink beer. on mid summer they asphalted it again and week later removed it, and on august last year they did that again but at the end left the asphalt. There been some street construction work which have taken years on my city and only thing they do is change the asphalt and it costs millions of euros.
