        look at what infallible means

yes the belief is easily exploitable for one who doesn’t actually believe it

Not really Twelver Islam proved to be more desirable to the shia compared to the other sects who could exploit the imamate

What if I am secretly evil and I dedicate my life to becoming an imam

you literally can't become an imam in any sect other than the zaydis and that is the one sect where the imam isn't infallible

The direct lineage ends with the 11th and 12th imams. In this time period the only other claimants was the brothers of the 11th imam. The descendants of the other imams were no longer apart of the direct lineage

Thus you are not a direct descendant. In Twelver Shi'ism there are no longer any direct descendants

Infallibility is a quality of the person, not the office. So, you can't just become an imam and then all of your deeds and words are magically made infallible, no matter what they are. In Shi'ism it's typically thought that the imam will be sinless from birth, so an evil person becoming the imam is just not possible. God selects the imam, and God will always select a person who is morally perfect. That's the belief.

That's not great for the integrity of their religion. Us Catholics already get enough shit for having the Papal Infallibility dogma

That's shit is pure grabage, i don't know how christians swallow the infallibity of the pope or church thing, atleast the imam is non-existant at this time, so those shias are just waiting and not listening to anyone at the moment, they like their sheikhs though as an authority.

        >so those shias are just waiting and not listening to anyone at the moment
Is the imam infallibility only for the Shia Imams?

Yeah pretty much, unless it's about the mahdi sunnis have the imam al mahdi thing, all Muslims do, but there's differences in the mahdi thing between shias and sunnis that i forget tbh.

        >so those shias are just waiting and not listening to anyone at the moment
the shia ulama took over the imam's responsibility

it's the key cornerstone of their religion. Shi'ism is Ali. All future imams replace Ali. Without the imam you don't have shi'ism

It was a mistake on my part, I thought it was referring to imams in general, not capital "I" Imams from Shia Islam. I should've known from OP's pic though
